This delicate subject is affecting millions Venezuelan citizens as well as raising concerns of family members abroad fearing for their kin. It has affected generations so much that many have decided to leave behind jobs, friends and family to flee from its own country. Venezuela is one of the most dangerous countries at present, a dangerous country where “economic crises and high inflation, like panic-induced runs on banks, generate self-serving, defensive behaviors that tend to spiral out of control,” (Corrales, 15). Venezuelan citizens are having a really difficult time realizing how bad their country is doing and how their families are trying to survive day by day.

Venezuela, located in the Latin American region, is a country that has been characterized by its abundance of oil reserve. A natural resource that has shaped the history and development of the country, affecting its economic, social and most important is political spheres. For many years Venezuela was controlled by authoritarian regimes. The country, being very important in the sense of geo-politics due to its abundance of oil, has been a key player in the international arena and most important, to those that for many years kept the country under their regime. It was not until 1958 that Venezuela experienced the change to democracy and a stable democracy was kept between the two main political parties of the time, Accion Democratica (AD)

According to the online version of the Miriam Webster dictionary, democracy is "government by the people" also "is a government in which supreme power is invested by the people and it is exercised by the people directly or indirectly through a representational system in which periodically held free elections." Venezuela as well as other countries in Latin America has undergone constant changes in their democracy, produced by their rulers. The primary function of the government is to ensure the safety of the state, its territory and its inhabitants. Food is hard to come by and the crime and murder rate continues to raise. The country in debt and cannot even buy imports to sell to its citizens. Venezuela will need outside help if it is to recover from the situation caused by Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro. The only reason Chavez remained popular in Venezuela is because the economy was doing well in the beginning and he was able to control the media so that the public opinion of him was kept

Nicolás Maduro has tossed his political opponents in prison, broke protests with lethal force, postponed regional government elections to not have any threats to his party’s power, and more so he could stay in power but at the cost of freedom, law and order, and justice fading away from Venezuela. A solution to the problem could be stabilizing the currency. Currently, inflation is so exorbitantly high, that the black market ends up accounting for much of Venezuelan profit, which obviously is detriment to the economy. Therefore, it is suggested that Venezuela should let their currency float, which will substantially decrease the inflation rate. In terms of political solutions, it is important for the opposition parties to persevere to ensure that people like Maduro do not maintain power.
