3.2. Sources of Data
The researcher sourced materials from literatures published from 2000-2015, with the exception of press articles (which were excluded owing to time constraints on the project) were included in the review. The review was carried out in a methodical manner using the three main secondary sources to find literature: electronic databases using Google; as well as search functions of journals, reports and publications; and government websites where relevant literature where identified through content analysis. The collection of data was guided by the search strings displaced below in Table 1. Ideally, the literature is reviewed in line with the three research assumptions identified for this study. Ideally, the literature

For the purpose of our content analysis, we adopted qualitative descriptive method to examine the estimation of Nigeria – EU migration. The pattern of passenger journeys is complex, with visitors and migrants coming into and out of Europe for a variety of reasons and for a variety of lengths of stay. Most Nigerians migrants will enter Europe legally, though some will arrive as illegal migrants. Some come to find work, some to study, others to join existing family members and some to seek protection from abuse or persecution in their home country (asylum seekers). Some migrants will come with dependents. Some will come to Europe as visitors and then decide to stay for a longer period, sometimes for more than 12 months (visitor switchers). Others will come as migrants with the intention of staying for a long period but then change their mind and return within 12 months (migrant switchers). Some migrants will be highly skilled, others less so, seeking manual and semi-skilled employment. Some will emigrate permanently from Europe; others will leave for a short or extended length of time but then return. Some Nigerian migrants will come to Europe, stay in one place for only a short period but then move on to a more permanent residence. The length of time a Nigerian migrant stays in Europe is a major issue when interpreting migration statistics. Those staying for less than three months,
Human migration can be influenced by various different stressors, whether it be by choice, in hopes of starting a new adventure, or by force, fleeing brutal persecution of a certain threat. Each individual has a unique story, all coming from different backgrounds and places around the world. However governing and political bodies often need certain labels and categories in order to define such a diverse set of people. Such legal definitions seem unnecessary or extensive due to the limitations they pose onto one’s identity, but they are a byproduct of sketching lines on the landscape and securing borders, protecting those who inhabit and belong.
Shawn Pogatchnik shows how important the fact that so many migrants are trying to flee to Germany and other EU countries by using statistics. Pogatchnik states that the EU countries “...has seen more than 332,000 migrants enter so far this year.” He also says that Germany “...is expecting to take in 800,000 migrants in this year.” When people read the article, they realize that what is going on must be bad enough for hundreds of thousands of people to want to flee their own country to enter another European country.
To begin it is helpful to understand that the word “migrant” is a rather contested concept, one that changes over time, and varies depending on the criteria used to assign it.(Raghuram & Erel, 2014, p.133)
For the last year, people from the various regions of the globe have been fleeing their home countries and migrating toward several nations across Europe. What pushes them away and what draws them to their final destinations? Ascertaining a single motivation of immigration remains too complex to determine because a variety of factors and goals have lead to this grand movement. Several issues arise from increased numbers of immigrants who may or may not be finding what they seek.
The data from this research study is clearly expressed, consistent and reflective of the data. There are primary sources cited in the article, and relevant landmark studies were described and used in this
Nowadays migration is getting to be one of the dominant characteristics of the modern world since at the present moment that movement of people and migration of citizens from one country to another become a norm. Not surprisingly that such unparallel and extremely high level of migration results in substantial demographic, ethnical and socio-cultural changes in many countries of the world.
The migration crisis has reached a level where Europe must take a stand and must present a viable plan, expressing the future goals the European government believes will help solves this crisis. The International Organization for Migration said, between January and November 2015 more than 750,000 migrants are predicted to arrive in Europe from across the Mediterranean. As a union, Europe is showing the world that they are not a cohesive organization prepared to face the future with respects to the mass migration. The policy concerning migration at the European Union level states that each nation has the right to their own migration policies, while adhering to the European migration institutions, which are not fully established. So far, many of the migrants coming to Europe are settling in Italy and Greece; many hope to be able to reach Germany as their final destination.
Over the years more and more refugees, migrants come and go to different countries and from different countries.
The researchers in the beginning of the article discuss their literature review in order to inform the reader on the subject. Here, they use data from an array of sources, ranging from the current and primary sources, organizing
There’s been a lot of talk recently about the Syrian refugee crisis. It’s the new hot topic whenever anyone touches on issues of immigration. However, there is a more persistent and arguably larger immigration “crisis” that we need to address; and that is the North African migratory movements. Europe has dealt with North Africa many times as a place of immigration and transit, often times very badly. For many, the original question of “security vs acceptance” was borne from the legal and illegal movement of African migrants. And lately, it seems that Europe has decided to err heavily on the side of caution, implementing sweeping measures focused on sending all migrants back. However, the problem does not only lie in this approach, but also their tacit policy of accepting high-skilled workers from the many struggling countries in Africa. There is then a dual effect in progress – that of the countries losing their best and brightest and all the while receiving almost no material help in dealing with the struggling poor left behind. This leaves the countries in a crippling cycle of under-development, while all Europe does it gain young skilled workers.
As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, it is imperative to understand how societies interact and the issues they are facing. I have been interested in languages, cultures, and international affairs for many years which is why I have decided to major in Global Studies. To broaden my global perspective, I am currently participating on St. Lawrence University's Global Francophone Cultures program where I am studying abroad in Quebec, Canada; Rouen, France, and Dakar, Senegal. In addition to learning the French language, the main area of focus for this year's program is immigration. One of the courses I am taking is called, “The Age of Migration: Labor Mobility in the EU.” In this course we have read various articles on immigration, researched countries immigration policies, and are studying the economics of immigration. We
Migration variations include south to south migrants, south to north migrants, massive internal and transnational migration, slum dwellers, illegal settlements, these grounds, territorial fragmentation, internal displacement, communities and perilous locations.
In the globalized world of today, the way the systems of the planet operate could be described as ebbs and flows, because there is no end point and no isolated system. Whether it is the global economy or pattern of weather, there is always a widespread exchange of interactions and ripple effects. One such example is migration, which is simply a flow of what earth has an abundance of: humans. That is the subject of this investigation, specifically migration in the Mediterranean region, an area of the world so flooded with immigrants and refugees that it is in crisis.
The data captures the yearly migration of people who intend to be residents in the receiving countries. Hence the measure does not capture temporal migrants, students and others who travelled for tourism- or business-related reasons. They also collected data on time-varying immigration policies that regulate the entry of immigrants in the destination countries. Controlling for these immigration policies may be considered, however, among the European countries in question, these controls would not be significant.
A review of the literature provides more detailed information on the chosen topic. Its purpose is to give the researcher knowledge that will form the foundation for his or her study and therefore, the information must be related to the topic. Not only does it provide basic information on the variables in the topic but also covers various relatable studies conducted in the past; how, where they were conducted, and the conclusions that the researcher(s) came to. Literature can be obtained from a wide variety of sources; newspapers, journals, databases, books, encyclopedias, digital sources, and much more. Information obtained in this section helps the researcher understand the magnitude of the problem defined in the first stage, recognize any consequences and gaps that other researchers may have not filled, and identify potential strategies to combat the problem. It serves as a secondary source of information. Based on
