The night watchman state is a state that has limited power of upholding law, implying that the powers exercised by this state cannot be subjected to further reduction without eliminating the state and institute anarchy. In the night-watchman state, power is restricted to the army, prisons, the judicial systems, and the police so as to safeguard people from theft and coercion, defend the state from foreign aggression and punish criminals (Law 210 Week 8 notes, slide 9). Therefore, the role of this law is to confine the country to the roles of protecting the negative rights of its citizens. This means the protection of the right of non-interference of the citizens by others. Also, this law obligates the government to facilitate the production
This idea of limiting the national government’s ability to invade on people’s rights, was reiterated
The 30thbrigade was originally the 6th brigade located in Fort Bliss, which moved to Fort Sill in 2010. It was switched over in May 18, 2012. The reason for the change was because Col. Bill Stacy was wanting to get a new set of colors. Since there was an upcoming parade, he wanted the colors to be standing out. The Center of Military History, informed him that there was no set of colors or that they didn’t have any colors for them. Due to the fact that they didn’t have any direct link to any wartime unit. As Col. Bill Stacy being the commander to the unit he was in his belief. After The Center of Military History showed him some letter of when the 6th ADA brigade came to be he found out that the unit was created in 1988 and were never assigned

Richard Ramirez is an infamous serial murderer who terrorized Los Angeles, California in 1985. The media gave him the name the “Night Stalker” when he was on his vicious rampage of forcing himself into the homes of his victims late at night and committing his heinous crimes. Though he was only convicted of thirteen murders, he had many more victims. His crimes were so random, disorganized, and impulsive that the law enforcement officials of Los Angeles had no luck finding Ramirez for months as he grew increasingly more violent. (Tripod.com, 2012) Finally, in August of 1985, the police had enough information from many of his victims to release a sketch of him to the media. The sketch had only been on the news for one

Gaining absolute power begins with dehumanization of the people in order to gain control. Night, written by Elie Wiesel, is a retelling of Wiesel’s own agonizing experiences at a concentration camp. Wiesel shares his story of traumatizing events such as seeing people strangling others for food and leaving his dad to die. Wiesel’s was treating less and less like a human during his imprisonment. In Night, the bell at the concentration camp symbolizes the dehumanization of the prisoners by the Nazis.
Faith is something all humans want to believe they have. Faith can be religious, and everything in between. Faith gives people hope, especially in the darkest and hardest of times. In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, Eliezer experiences loss in his religious faith, questioning god and his quietness. Throughout the book, Eliezer's faith slowly diminishes as the years pass, wondering whether or not god will assist him in his times of need. Even the people who have the strongest faith, will question it in times of hardship
In Elie Wiesel's novel, Night, he depicts the horrors he faced as a prisoner in the Auschwitz concentration camp. In consequence, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was written in response to the Holocaust, but Night exhibits the declaration’s painfully apparent necessity. Its necessity is notably evident as Articles 3, 5, and 25 are blatantly disregarded by the Nazi Party. One of the the most fundamental human rights, Article 3: "Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person," (UDHR) is clearly violated in Night.
The memoir Night explained to us the tragedy Jews faced. Human Rights were temporarily taken away from them. As a result, the UDHR helped to eradicate wrong doing. These Human Rights are to ensure life and liberty. Learning from the event that took place in Night, the world would not allow malous event like the Holocaust to ever prevail
The power any citizens have, if any, while living under the ruling of a totalitarian system are very limited. Although they feel like they are part of a society like group, the chance of them becoming someone of importance to the ‘society’ is zero. Living under the totalitarian system, the citizens are expected to obey all rules, and deal with the fact that the system will do anything, such as using intimidation and manipulation, to remain in power. All of these themes are strongly demonstrated in Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and George Orwell’s 1984. In both novels, the citizens are ruled and watched over by someone socially higher than them in their “community” that have the power to monitor and control one’s every move and

In I must betray you by Ruta Septeys, Romania in 1989 is an oppressive communist state with the single goal of keeping its population at its weakest, and snuffing out any form of freedom, privacy, and trust amongst themselves. Firstly, surveillance from everywhere keeps fear in the people and stops any attempt at rebellion or free speech. Surveillance keeps the population calm, socially avoidant, weak, unable to collect or plan. This idea of surveillance is evident early in the novel “Watching”. Always watching for the future.
