Suitable for students, Australian literature comprises of a variety of thought-provoking concepts that challenge readers’ minds, as opposed to the simple texts that students are confronted with nowadays. A mythic novel, Across the Nightingale Floor is an example of modern literature that most students read these days. A highly praised novel, it has received awards such as the German Youth Literature Prize. Written by the pseudonymous Australian author, Lian Hearn embraces a contemporary writing style, and her novel shows little resemblance to that of Australian literature. Based on high recommendations from my peers and seeing that the novel was intended for teens of both genders, I was compelled to explore this novel. Although a well
Florence Nightingale paved the way for patient centered care in nursing. She realized that patients should be treated with dignity, respect and treatments that are in the best health interest of the patient. The Institute of Medicine defines patient-centered care (PCC) as “care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs and values,” ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions. (Finkelstein, 2012) Being hospitalized can be a stressful time for many patients and their families. Nurses spend more time with patients than any other healthcare team member. In patient centered care, nurses provide the knowledge, resources, and support that each client needs to be involved in informed decision-making processes, assume important aspects of total self-care (if capable), and change behaviors to promote health and a better quality of life (Hood, 2015). The overall health outcome of patients revolves around patient centered care. Establishing a healthy nurse-patient relationship is key to patient centered care.
In Nightingale Square, a small run down ‘mom & pop’ grocery store, a newly updated/built Downtown Store. I noticed many vehicles parked on the streets and residents walking the streets.
The purpose of this document is to provide the management of Nightingale Community Hospital with a resource outlining the current compliance status of the organization based on the Joint Commission guidelines. Based on these guidelines, the Joint Commission will conduct an audit of Nightingale Community Hospital. These guidelines are used to assess the standards compliance in relation to the patient, residents as well as the client care. In detail, assessment and care for patients include execution of a series of processes such as planning care, treatment, provision of care, reassessment of care and discharge planning. Assessment of care is primarily the accommodation of a patient needs while in a care setting. Nightingale Community Hospital is not exempt from inappropriate variations and the current compliance status is wanting. Variations arise from many co related factors, some beyond the control of the hospitals care system. To restore the compliance of the hospital's care system, it is important to review the last survey highlighting the key areas that need restructuring.
Concerning Nightingale Community Hospital's Compliance, one of the areas requiring improvement is in 3-East. The leadership in 3-East is has been discovered outside of acceptable compliance. According to the FCA findings, working overtime, low morale and on-time reporting is causing issues. The five areas the Joint Commission notes as key to effective performance is not being utilized in 3-East. This is a result of not applying data to plan, communicate to improve performance and effect staffing accordingly.
The conceptual and theoretical nursing models of Florence Nightingale and Nola Pender helps to provide knowledge to improve advanced nursing practice, guide research and curriculum and identify the goals of nursing practice. Florence Nightingales model and Nola Pender theory to community and public health nursing is found to be useful for the improvement of family functioning and the goal to promote healthy communities. Florence Nightingales model and Nola Pender theory are very useful for advanced practice nurses, especially when we are taking care of our patients. The purpose of this paper is to explore how utilizing Nightingales model and Pender theory as the foundation of care and how it can improve health outcomes, nurse-patient interaction and healthcare experience provided to patients and their families by an advanced practice nurse.

Thank you for your kind words. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful staff and board.
In Nightingale Square, the only evidence I saw of an acute/possibly chronic condition was a man walking on the sidewalk with his left arm in a sling using a crutch. There were no signs of accidents, communicable morbidity diseases, alcoholism, drug addiction or mental illness. The nearest hospital is just across the Nightingale Square and In Acer Tech Center border.

Over the past two decades, EBP has expanded on Florence's theories. EBP constitutes the combination of clinical expertise, patient values, and research evidence when making decisions about patient care. In the 1990's, it was determined that just increasing knowledge was not sufficient for improving patient outcomes. To obtain better patient outcomes "new knowledge must be transformed into clinically useful forms, effectively implemented across the entire care team within a systems context,
Throughout the past six years, two outbreaks of tuberculosis occurred within the homeless population in the city of Toronto. With intensive care management and contact follow-up partnership with City of Toronto Shelter, Support and housing Administration Division, shelter staff, TB clinics, the provincial public health laboratory and community partners, the Toronto Public Health (TBH) was able to effectively manage these outbreaks (Toronto Public Health, 2016). TBH created a program to help homeless shelters, and drop-in operators apply the correct protocols to essentially reduce TB transmission risk by enforcing environmental control measures (Toronto Public Health, 2016). Similarly, implementing Florence Nightingale’s theories, found in the novel Notes on Nursing, developed an imperative understanding that the patients’ wellbeing is dependent on their surrounding environment. City of Toronto TB program for the under-housed, homeless and correctional population with tuberculosis, is based on Florence Nightingale’s theories of providing ventilation and warming, maintain cleanliness of rooms and walls, and ensuring observation of the sick.
