Students enjoy reading books that are relatable, interesting, and easy to understand. A Northern Light, by Jennifer Donnelly, should be removed from the tenth grade Summer reading list because it is confusing, unrelatable to teens and not what most students expect it to be.
Hermes was born to Zeus and Maia, a Pleiade, in a cave. Hermes climbed out of his crib and left the cave shortly after his birth. Outside the cave, he found a tortoise, which he killed and turned its shell into a lyre. Hermes then went to a pasture belonging to his older brother, Apollo. He stole fifty of the cows, moving them backwards to obscure their pathway.
When you picture a sunset you may only see the beauty behind it. Often times you may not look at a sunset and wonder why the sun sets the way it does. The answer is physics. Physics is in every sunset and makes the sunset the way it is. The first change you see when viewing this stunning phenomenon-taking place is the coloration of the sun. According to the physics of sunsets, “On an airless world like the Moon, the Sun at sunset would look no different than at any other time” (Ethan, 2013). In reality, we are not in an airless world and our atmosphere is what makes the sunsets so spectacular and looking nothing like the sun at all when it sets. In order to reach our eyes, the sun needs an immense amount of light to pass through our atmosphere.

Hercules, born of Alcmena and Zeus, was conceived when Zeus took the form of Alcmena’s husband and lay with her. Her true husband lay with her again later that night and she conceived twins. One would be born to her human husband, and the other fathered by Zeus himself (Hamilton). Zeus bragged about his soon to be born son alerting and infuriating Hera to Hercules existence. Hera was notorious for tormenting her husbands’ illegitimate offspring since she couldn’t harm Zeus outright for his infidelity (Hamilton). Hera persuaded Eileithyia to slow Alcmena’s labor in a fit of piqué, almost killing her (Hamilton). Alcmena in fear of Hera’s wrath gave her son to nature. Zeus (in some accounts Hermes) stole him away to Olympus, where he suckled at Hera’s breast while she lay sleeping, granting him immortality (McLeish). When Hera awoke during the suckling she pushed Hercules away and the milk that sprayed out formed the Milky Way (Leeming). Zeus took the infant and placed him back in his crib before departing to Olympus again. Enraged Hera sent two massive serpents to kill Hercules and his brother as they lay sleeping
