This essay is going to be about Jonah having the qualities of a hero. Recently i had read 1
Samuel 11 and I was amazed that Saul saved the people of Nineveh. A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. My opinion is that Jonah has the qualities of a hero.
The word of the LORD came to Jonah saying “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.” So Jonah arose and went to
Nineveh and according to the word of the LORD. Then Jonah began to go through the city one day’s walk; and he cried out and said “Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a fast and put on sackcloth
Hero ; a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. The dictionary definition of hero sets an image of a perfect human, probably hot, with amazing hair and a killer smile that always gets the job done quick and easy. In the epic poem The Odyssey the main character Odysseus is considered one of the best heroes in all of greek mythology. However, like all people, Odysseus is not perfect. Odysseus was imperfect in multiple ways.
Before he went to the island of San Lorenzo, Jonah was floating on a cloud, not really paying attention to too much detail. However, as he met more people on the island things started to click for him, and he was able to make sense out of some of the puzzle that would eventually become his book. Jonah also makes some dumb mistakes, just like humans do. I don't think that his agreeing to become the president of San Lorenzo was a smart move, but at the time all he could think about was marrying Mona, and that in itself was enough motivation for him. "Love is blind" is a very popular saying, and it rings true in most humans, and in this case, Jonah.

God’s angel says that his descendants will follow God and bless all nations. Jesus is born, God’s love starts to affect us. It shows Abraham's faith to us, and that God loves everyone. Jonah Lord People of Nineveh The book of Jonah God tells Jonah to go to Nineveh, Jonah ran away from God, God sends a large storm, sailors threw Jonah at the sea, Jonah got eaten by a Giant fish, Jonah gets thrown up, Jonah goes to Nineveh and tells them to stop being wicked and they do.
In poetry and in song, literature, and action movies, the hero embodies the qualities of bravery, strength, and honor. According to Merriam-Webster, a hero is a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability: a warrior: a person admired for achievements and noble qualities: one who shows great courage. While others define this concept as a trustworthy cause a selfish or unselfish act. On the other hand, a hero is someone who stands for integrity and justice for all mankind and willingly put his life in peril for that belief. As noted there will always be different definitions of a hero as of the diverse perspective on the issue.
The debate over whether or not student athletes should be paid has sparked recently as student athletes feel they should be compensated for winning national championships and for their constant dedication to the team. As college sports are growing larger, players are arguing that they bring in extra money to their respective sports programs. The most revenue is brought in by the most successful football and basketball programs in the country such as Notre Dame and Alabama. Since these successful athletic programs generate so much money mainly due to the success of their players, the players argue that they should have a share in the earnings. Although students play an important part in revenue generated, the student athletes should not be paid
So we ca see that Jonah is trying to flee as far away from God as he can get. We now pick up in verse four; “Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea,
gods and foretold that they would find a mighty city at a place where they would see an eagle
William Shakespeare’s supreme tragic drama Hamlet does not answer fully for many in the audience the pivotal question concerning the sanity of Hamlet – whether it is totally feigned or not. Let us treat this topic in detail, along with critical comment.
Assignment 11 - Jonah and Nahum assignment Nineveh is described as a very large city (it took three days to go through it), the capital of the Gentile nation of Assyria; God calls it “the great city”. Jonah does not wish to go to Nineveh to preach repentance to the people- as God has commanded- because he is convicted that God will not carry out his threat to destroy the city and he doesn’t want to preach against them. In Jonah chapter one, the sailors learned that God does what he pleases; They showed compassion while also fearing the LORD. Jonah got mad at God in Jonah 4 because God did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened, and to Jonah this seemed very wrong. Personally, I do not think that Jonah is justified in his response.
2. Background and Introduction: Jonah was instructed by God to go to Nineveh and preach the message of repentance to them.
Jonah and Jesus both had a mission to convert the Gentiles to God and help them to acknowledge that God was the source of their salvation. Jonah’s mission was to call the Assyrian gentiles in Nineveh to repentance whilst one of Jesus’ mission was to convert all nations –including Gentiles- into the covenant of God. In Jonah 3:8-10 Jonah proclaims to the people of Nineveh. Jonah is preaching to Assyrian gentiles in order to deliver them from their evil habits and sin and bring them back to the grace of God. This is similar to one of Jesus’ missions; for not only did Jesus want the Jews to be educated about God but he also wanted the Gentiles to be and we see this in Mathew 28:19 when he proclaims that people of all nations (Jews and Gentiles, Israelites and Assyrians etc.) are to be told about God and become
It is thought that Jonah, the fifth of the Minor Prophets, lived during the reign of Jeroboam II, when the kingdom was divided. (Lockyer, 198) Although the Book of Jonah is quite short, just two and one-half pages, it is not short on themes. Because there are so many themes it is hard to classify or to determine its primary message. (Anchor 936 and New Interpreter's 490) These themes range from running away, praying, second chances, anger, and God's compassion and mercy, to name a few. The following will provide a brief explanation of each theme, previously mention, as it relates to the Book of Jonah.
In passage 2 he said that he must go back to the again to the lonely sea?and the sky. Now?all
Jeremiah had instituted the help of his friend and secretary, Baruch, to take dictations. Together they created a scroll that warned of Babylonian danger. When the scroll was sent to the Jehoiakim, the king, He ripped the columns off with a knife and had them burned. Shortly after Jeremiah and Baruch started on another scroll, this one they did not send to the king. After warnings from Jeremiah Jerusalem was subdued by Babylon in 598B.C.E. Many were taken into Exile including the newly appointed king Jehoiachin. In 594B.C.E Babylon seemed vulnerable due to a revolt in King Nebuchadnezzer's army. Jeremiah was sent to Jerusalem by Yahweh to discourage this
