One day the earth will begin to quiver, it will then go into a full body shake and we will be eliminated from its surface. Much like a dog does when he's irritated by fleas. We were not the first species on this planet, and we will not be the last. Anyone believing we impact what this planet is doing or will do, holds themselves in much higher regard than does Gaia. A sudden rearrangement of the tectonic plates would form tsunamis moving on order of one thousand miles an hour. Then there would be the wind doing the same. Whipping at one thousand miles per hour shredding all life above the surface. And wouldn't you know it? This has happened before. Why do you think the story of Noah's flood can be found on every continent in every religion …show more content…

In “Noah count and the Arkansas ark” There is a lot of non-educated words and the author wants you to realize that people don’t have to be dumb to talk in a certain way because you never know what they’ve been through something in their lifetime.
“And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy the earth. Make yourself an ark…” (Genesis 6:13-14, English Standard Version) “For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die.” (Genesis 6:17, ESV) “And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.” (Genesis 6:19, ESV) “Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.” (Genesis 6:22, ESV) “In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of
With the discovery of texts from ancient civilizations, many people have come to believe that various texts are common to one another. Examples of these texts are the creation stories from the Hebrews found in the Bible, The Hymn of Ra from the Egyptians, and the Enuma Elish stories from the Babylonians. In addition to these stories are the flood stories. These stories have caused many discussions among scholars involved with ancient civilizations.
The relationship between gods and humanity in Atrahisis: The Account of The Great Flood seems to carry great irresponsibility. Most of the gods display the weak characteristics of humans. They whine about work, constantly complain, selfishly create humans and then wish them dead. Enki and Atrahasis, two of the main characters in the flood story (one god and one human), gain a mutual respect that displays the proper relationship between humans and the divine. A relationship of prayerful ‘calling out’ to the gods, followed by a merciful response toward humankind, is the healthy and correct picture this story shows us. A correct relationship between gods and humans carries the possibility of eternal life
In the middle of the nineteenth century, archaeologists unearthed twelve clay tablets. Around the turn of the twentieth century, archaeologists finally managed to decipher the tablets written in Akkadian, the language of ancient royalty and diplomacy. The tablets tell of the story of Gilgamesh. (1)
In both the Bible and the Epic of Gilgamesh the God or Gods create a flood to destroy mankind. In Gilgamesh, the Gods decide something needs to be done because the humans are being loud and disturbing the Gods. In the Bible's version of the flood story, God regrets creating mankind because the humans have become evil God chooses Noah and his family to start a new beginning.
Perhaps you may be familiar with the flood story of Genesis but not the flood that occurs in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In both stories, a very important historical flood happens. Both share multiple differences and similarities while describing the flood in different ways. The Flood story in Genesis is way more believable. The world is more likely to flood if it rains forty days and forty nights than it raining for six days and six nights.
In 1987 an atmospheric river heated Los Angeles ,the consecutive rain for more than 5 days made this the largest Flood that had happen in Los Angeles. This is best know as the California Great Flood. Houses, infrastructure, landfill were under water and hundreds of people die. This Flood has been the most expensive flood recorder in Los Angeles history. Billions of dollars were the total sum of losses left by the Flood as a result the entire state of california was declared in bankruptcy. Los angeles is not a place where hurricanes are generated due to its location but it is affected by El nino and atmospheric rivers that year after year are increasing its power. Is a vulnerable city where flood can occur at anytime , due to it topography
Through this introduction to biblical study, it has already become apparent the Bible has a complicated relationship with history. Sometimes this relationship, when it proves supportive of the timeline in the Bible, can bolster the Bible’s claims. At other points, however, contradiction between the Bible and history require believers in Biblical inerrancy to explain away the differences. Within the readings from the past week, tracking the Bible as it finds itself walking the line between history and folklore has been the most compelling aspect of the readings. The story of Noah and the flood presents many contradictions not only within the text but also with the historical reports from the outside the Bible.
Myths, some parts speculated to be true and many not, have always been part of our lives. However, as one glances across the different myths of different cultures, one can find that some portion of two different myths can be eerily similar to each other, causing one to speculate whether they have made contact with one another long time ago in history. This led to the question that people constantly try to prove: do myths that have overlapping ideas verify actual historical truths and similar culture between origins of myths?
The Queensland floods were a devastating natural disaster which occurred mainly in Brisbane and surrounding areas from 2010 around mid december to early 2011 in January. The Queensland floods lasted for around 1 month and created a lot of damage leaving many people with nothing including no home and nowhere to go. Many areas were affected but the main areas were those around the banks of the Burnett River as well as the Fitzroy river. Unfortunately as time moved on the flood spread to many neighbouring cities affecting hundreds of thousands of people. A flood is “an overflow of a large amount of water beyond its normal limits, especially over what is normally dry land”, therefore being classified as hydrochloric process being part of the branch
In August 29, 2005 the Hurricane Katrina had stuck. “When the storm made landfall, it had a Category 3 rating on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale–it brought sustained winds of 100–140 miles per hour–and stretched some 400 miles across.”("Hurricane Katrina.”) Katrina had destroyed the state, Louisianan is located below the city level. A known target to be floored by the Gulf Coast. “Local, state and federal -- was unprepared, uncoordinated and overwhelmed in dealing with the Hurricane Katrina disaster that devastated the Gulf Coast in the late summer of 2005 and killed more than 900 people in New Orleans.”(Smith) But why did all this happen and whose is too blamed? In the video, “The Storm” by Frontline brings in the true of the
In the ‘Epic of Gilgamesh’ and ‘The Biblical Flood Story’ have a very similar plot line, but many several key differences. In both stories a flood occurs, which were caused by the God/s( This shows that in Gilgamesh they were polytheistic while in the Biblical version they were monotheistic. ) to destroy the people of the earth. For both flood stories, a specific person is chosen to build an arc but for different reasons. In the Biblical story, Noah builds the arc due to his righteous character but in Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim built the arc to save himself. Later on in both stories birds are released making them seem very similar. In the end, the stories are separated because of the covenants
Not even Noah of the Ark could have prepared for the imposing amount of water on my already heavily-saturated carpets. Some expect that a scaled-down ocean within one's bedroom would become a sizeable hindrance in their life’s. On the contrary, postponing the much-needed waterproofing of our house was the direct catalyst for the independent adult I am today. The flood damaged a majority of my possessions, left my room dangerous and smelling of mold, and devastated what I called home, but it couldn't have been a better illustration of a blessing in disguise.
In this article Lorence G. Collins disputes the claim that the remains of Noah’s Ark have been found in Turkey. He claims that the formation being claimed to be composed of petrified wood, washers, rivets, brackets for the walls, and anchor stones is not Noah’s Ark and backs this up with scientific evidence. In the 1970’s through the 1980’s the site of the supposed ark was explored by Ron Wyatt, David Fosold, and John Baumgardner and this author debunks their findings. One reason these scientists thought this was Noah’s Ark was because these remains they found were 515 feet long, which is the same length as 300 Egyptian cub units, the dimensions that were given from God for the Ark. These scientists proposed
