At first glance I look about as non “diverse” as can be. A white middle class male brought up by two parents, with two siblings, and a dog. Much like many other kids my age I enjoy playing video games, watching movies/tv shows, participating in sports, and listening to music.
Often times when people think of diversity they focus on the external differences, race, ethnicity, and national origin. By this definition the U.S.A. is among the most diverse countries in the world and becoming more so every day. I have close friends and acquaintances from a wide range of backgrounds and in my experience I see a greater differences in individuals than between backgrounds. My sisters whom have been brought up in the exact same family situation and
Diversity in the united states in not something new here but in fact spans back many generations. Diversity is everywhere and no one can truly get away from it, but by accepting it a person can learn how to lead a better fuller life with variety of understanding for the people that come in contact with. I feel that the biggest thing I learned in this call about diversity is not that there is diversity but that there is a lot of work to be done to farther the peace action between the groups of people knowing this make me realize that the us is not yet a unity but is trying and gives me more
The diversity and location of NC State is what draws me to this University. From the first moment I stepped onto the campus, to the tours and talking to current students, I felt the excitement of the campus. NC State is a rich community that is strong because of the variety of classes, teachers, students, and activities, and for the array of perspectives and experiences. From attending a small school in a small town, then transitioning to a larger high school, this feels like a natural next step.
diversity in US today is not limited to ethnicity, race – other factors: social class (SES or socio-economic status), education, size of group, religion, language
Diversity is defined as people coming together from different races, nationalities, religions, and sexes. Diversity has affected America today in a positive manner because it has given people the chance to gain
Great Southern Rail use chemicals from the company Diversey, within house keeping there are several primary chemicals use by the on train staff. They are,
How do people behave? What makes us act the way we do? There are as many different answers as there are people. Each person is a unique makeup of individual characteristics which blend together to form the personality, the behavior of the person. We can identify certain broad characteristics of groups of people and apply them to individuals to get an idea of how they will behave in a given situation. This is called stereotyping and, when taken too far, will give a distorted picture of what to expect of a persons behavior. While you can never get a fully accurate picture of how someone will behave based on their demographics and characteristics, you can make certain general guesses that will point
I agree with the evidence that David Brooks presents in which the U.S. is not diverse. Mr. Brooks concludes that the U.S. isn’t diverse because we as human beings seclude ourselves and live around people of the same affiliation and class as we feel more comfortable being in that area. It is common that people in this country tend to group themselves with people around them that are basically like themselves and/or of same ranking. Geography is also another key factor as people cluster together and are predictable in what they might drink, eat, drive, etc. based upon their surroundings in that particular area of the U.S. The U.S. continues to promote the concepts of diversity because we believe in equality for all and diversity can promote
Our country is a good example of what diversity means. Globalization has increased rapidly, making our society a more diverse place. Where individuals from foreign places with different cultures, race, and languages all unite to become one. As one of my favorite novelist, F. Scott Fitzgerald, once said, “The rich are different from you and me.” (Walter Benn Michaels 725) The problem here is that Fitzgerald failed to realize that the “rich” were the same as everyone else, except with more money. A diverse society represents a country with various people of color, socioeconomics, national origin, etc. Although we are all different yet, the same, and come from different places, race, color, gender, and socioeconomics, nobody is looked down upon nor superior to the other.
I believe that "Diversity" plays important roles in our lives. Without diversity, we cannot widen our field of view. Diversity helps us to open up our eyes and our world. From reading the essay "How diversity makes us smarter", written by Katherine W Phillips, I learned that there are some negative effects brought up by the social diversity where dialog of inclusion is advanced, but mostly diversity is something that has positive effect in our society and even individual. I could also reflect and make connection with my experience of moving from non diverse community to diverse community.
What is diversity ? Well, to me , diversity is embrace differences between people and respect and evaluate other as an individual and not as a whole. As an Asian female raised in the U.S by an immigrant mother, I was fortunate enough to have never encounter a racist comment or act towards myself or anyone else around me. Until today, November 10, 2016, two days after Trump got elected. Like any other weekend, I would sometimes traveled to UMD (also a school that I was looking into) to visit my boyfriend. He has a roomate, who I first thought was pretty chill. He would seem to be very welcoming when I would come visit. Although, I knew that he was voting for Trump ; a candidate that I strongly disagree with, I would still respect my boyfriend's
Cultural diversity, or multiculturalism, is based on the idea that cultural identities should not be discarded or ignored, but rather maintained and valued. The foundation of this belief is that every culture and race has made a substantial contribution to American history. However, many people remain opposed to the idea of multiculturalism, or cultural diversity awareness, while others often support it and yet have no clear idea of how it should be taught. The diversity of the United States is truly astounding, as many different ethnic and racial groups have contributed to the social,
Growing as a white English speaking male, with blonde hair and blue eyes, recently, I have come to learn that I am diverse like the rest of the world population. It's been one of those things growing up, that because I am white, I am viewed as the average American, that I don't bring anything different to the table to make one "diverse". Unfortunately, that is the case in quite a bit of peoples eyes, but in reality, everyone has their own backgrounds and their own experiences. My experiences of diversity has shaped me as an individual by letting me understand certain aspects of a foreign language, and letting me be able to learn and make my own choices on faith.
Diversity is present in all aspects of life, its been major topics for cultures forever and helps with all social or cultural probems of diputes. When you have such a huge populations of peopel there are bound to be a lot of differneces and ways of looking at things so ther has to be understanding involved otherwise nothing gets resolved. the key is to be accepting to everytone and never judge anyone regardless of differences. Diversity is extremely importante; in the work place, school, or over all population diversity is the key that unites it all. With diversity you get people from all walks of life that share their unique stories or create opportunities for new insight to be shared. Diversity is important because it recognizes that
Diversity is all around us even though most of us do not think about it. Our country is made up of many different cultures. We each choose the amount of diversity that we accept into our daily lives. Some people embrace a diverse life while others are content to associate with people who are more like themselves. The reason for our lack of diversity may be as simple as, we have not been given the opportunity to include it in our lives. If we live and work in a small community, it may lack diversity. Whether people lead a diverse life is not the problem, the real issue is how we treat others that are different than ourselves.
Growing up, my understanding of diversity came from watching television and reading books; from these sources, I deduced that diversity meant embracing people with a different skin color or culture from your own in order to realize that they are people just like everyone else. This narrow view of diversity came from the fact that I had little personal experience with diversity. I grew up in a small town, and everyone in my school was either Native American or white. There didn’t appear to be any discrimination based on this difference; any adversity that anyone faced was based on personality differences or family feuds. That all changed when I started college.
