Intro to Religion: Final Exam
Part 1(a): Christianity
With approximately 2.1 billion followers, Christianity is one of the world’s largest religions. Christianity—the religion of martyrs—is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, Son of God. Before the establishment of Christianity, the idea of the Messiah as the world’s savior, depicted in the Old Testament, was widely believed and accepted among Jewish communities. Since these ideas existed, the Christian movement popularized the idea of Jesus as the Messiah to legitimate his life. Writers then began to propagate the idea of his death as the centerpiece of Christianity after the crucifixion of Jesus. The crucifixion was portrayed as the sacrifice to end all sacrifices; Christians believe that Jesus died for their sins. Consequently, a shift within the idea of the Messiah occurred from a physical and political figure to a spiritual and universal figure. This shift provided Christianity with a solid foundation that led to an easier acceptance of Christianity. Since the kings and emperors believed in the godliness of the Messiah, the teachings of Jesus were slowly politicized into the Roman Empire. Therefore, when authoritative figures adopted Christianity, the amount of Christian followers increased, manufacturing social solidarity and prestige for its members.
After the crucifixion of Jesus, Christianity rapidly spread throughout the Roman Empire. Despite this growth, Christian
Having the privilege to serve in the military has allowed this writer the opportunity to be exposed to the pluralistic society in a way which has exposed him to the beauty of the diversity enjoyed in American culture. One aspect of said diversity is the interaction which has taken place amongst the Christian and various world religions who also wear the same uniform in defense of America. It was the pleasure of the writer to attend a local synagogue in which his Jewish brothers and sisters welcomed him with open arms. The local congregation of Jewish believers went out of their way in order to ensure their newest visitor understood the flow of service and the significance of the ritual which took place on the first Shabbat or Sabbath of the month. The following essay will serve to detail the worship experience as well as how it and other beliefs of Judaism compare/contrast with the Christian faith.
Christianity, most eminently the Bible, has had a profound impact on the world. Their stories of events thought to had occurred and interpretation of how the world commenced, have made many consider possibilities. For example, Jesus, as according to the Gospels, was a prophet who had an inundating impact on those around him and was conventionally followed by a crowd. Perhaps astonished by his merits of rejuvenating the sick, performing miracles or optically discerned as an inspiration. These, however, lead to his crucifixion because Roman regime feared he would intervene with the relationship of their regime and the people of Roman. As to fortify his death, a minute Christian kineticism with minute powers in Jerusalem who stayed staunch to Jesus’ legacy, convinced that he was the Messiah, and he had died for the sin of those, received
The population of Rome was mainly made up of peasants and farmers so when they learned that Jesus was like them it gave them hope of achieving eternal life. Christianity accepts people of all social classes so it spread quickly throughout Rome due to the lower class’s large population. When Constantine embraced Christianity and stopped the persecution of Christians the religion spread like wild fire because Christians could spread God’s word, like Paul, without being
The new faith that brought a message and established the resurrection of Jesus Christ was the faith that Constantine adopted as a child from his mother. Christianity during Constantine’s reign established much dominance over other religions and was the main reason for influence of the Christian. Christianity in the Roman world had many perils from gladiatorial battles, to forms of charity which affected the Roman world for good (McGiffert, 34). Charity became with

The Pax Romana allowed Rome to expand, and created a period of peace that would spread the important religion of Christianity throughout the strong empire. The new religion of Christianity was Jesus’ interpertation of monotheistic religion, Judiasm. Christianity was unlike the polytheistic Roman religion which infuriated many Roman rulers. Despite the hatred of rulers it spread quickly throughout the empire and continued even after Jesus died. Although Christianity followers were persecuted they felt strongly about their beliefs and eventually the Edict of Milan was passed whih meant that Christianity was a religion approved by the emperor. Christianity changed from a sect of persecution to a state religion within the Roman Empire because
Christ preached about the “Golden Rule”, which means to do unto others as you would have done to you. The Roman’s felt threatened by Christ’s popularity so they had him crucified on a cross. That’s when the cross became the symbol of Christ and his disciples spread his teachings. A institutional church was established in Rome over the next 400 years. Christians started spreading their religion throughout Europe.

From the first century to the fourth, there were very few Christians in Rome. Romans and Jews fully disagreed with Christianity’s ideology, as they believed that it was nothing but a foolish superstition. During Jesus’s life, and even after, there were many factors that aided the spread of Christianity, such as Paul, the martyrs, and Jesus himself. Another one of these factors is the emperor, Constantine. Born as a son to a successful general, and Constantine became one himself.
Christians being dedicated to their God organized and grew more as persecutions of their fellow followers began. However, missionaries were the next big part of the spread of Christianity. Between 312 B.C.E – 337 B.C.E with Constantine’s help Christianity began spreading throughout the empire. A couple of years after Christianity was at an all-time high and only rose and spread more. Jesus’s crucifixion was the turning point that help start the rise and spread of Christianity throughout the western civilization.
These famous lines of the Christian Bible describe the first mention of a Roman Emperor and would be remembered throughout history with the birth of Jesus Christ ,the symbol of christianity. Though his life was short and he was crucified at an extremely young age, Jesus developed a cult following due to his presumed miracles and of his preaching of eternal peace and everlasting life. His crucifixion resulted in the spreading of his faith throughout the Roman empire and in the beginning of the end of traditional Roman religion. Ironically enough it was the Romanization of Europe that allowed the Christian faith to easily spread. By the death of Christ, the whole Roman empire was connected with well constructed roads and inns which allowed the prophets to spread their message easily and safely.
As Christianity was spread throughout Rome, people began to question the teachings of Jesus. Out of fear, officials arrested and killed a multitude of Christians as a result. The everyday plebeian became impressed with these people dying for a belief. Although persecutions became more common, the number of Christians stayed the same and maybe even grew because of the influx of polytheistic Romans converting to the monotheistic religion of Christianity. People were converting quicker than they were being killed off because of the likeable teachings of love, the bravery of these people dying because of what they believed in, and their appealing message to those not in the affluent classes.
As a universalizing religion, Christianity was able to connect with people of all different backgrounds and rapidly gain popularity through its common themes. People were finding truth and investing their faith into this religion. Martyrs were unknowingly helping the religion gain followers and imperial leaders could not contain the religion. Therefore, the greatest impact of early Christianity was the rapid conversion of the empire’s population which influenced the government leaders of the time.
