Nothing compares to the Iowa State Fair was the theme for 2015 fair. In 268 days the Iowa State Fair will start and approximately 1.1 million Iowans will attend this fair. The first Iowa state fair was in 1854. The first years of the fair moved from city to city until the current location of East 30th and East Grand in Des Moines determined the site in 1886. The state fair is noted for it’s varied attractions. The entertainment ranges from agricultural, contests, venders, rides and arm wrestling. One of my favorite thing is all the food you can smell it wherever you go. You got the greasy foods like deep fat fried things. The good old cattleman’s that have good stakes although that is if you want to stand in line for an hour. There
My favorite place to be is Chick-Fil-A. Chick-Fil-A is a bright red and light colored brown building with a plant statue of a cow, an outside eating area, and a drive through. When you walk in you might hear the frier, or the timer for the waffle fries, people talking, kids playing on the plastic playground, and you might hear the drink machine running if you are at the counter. Some of things you will touch, that could be very gross, are food, tables, door handles, condiment containers, and more than likley your disgusting, filthy money. At Chick-Fil-A you will probably taste chicken because pretty much everything they serve at Chick-Fil-A is chicken, of course. You could also end up tasting their amazing milkshakes or your everyday
Although Dollywood was exhilarating; Gatlinburg was a close second. Gatlinburg is really where the city yet country atmosphere comes into play. We started our journey passing through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and let me just tell you, it was astonishing. This really exhibits the beauty of the smoky mountains. The rocky rivers, unrelenting waterfalls, and glistening greenery really embodied the allure of The Great Smoky Mountains. Unfortunately at this point we just drove through because we were on our way to Gatlinburg, but we came back. Our first destination in Gatlinburg was the aquarium, because we are both fish lovers! We spent hours here, then went on our way elsewhere. Just walking down the streets of Gatlinburg could have kept us entertained for hours. Of course the kid in the both of us guided us to our next destination, the arcade! This was without a doubt my boyfriend’s favorite part, we spent roughly the rest of the afternoon in here, but we didn 't leave our cabin until about 11. There was this crazy clown game where you knock down clowns by throwing balls, and it was extremely addictive. Surprisingly we weren 't the only older people in there. After this we spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and engaging with the friendly people. Finally we were exhausted, and returned to our cabin.

Being one of the biggest attraction in Bloomsburg that only comes once a year it is a huge deal to the residents that live here all year round. The local schools sometimes shuts down for the whole entire week or maybe just for a long weekend. This fair is practically everything you would imagine a state fair would be and they have it all here. You can adopt a puppy, play with farm animals, and whatever you could think you would need they will have it. If your looking for good deals on home decor your best bet is to go when its closer towards the end of the week when the fair is almost over because at that point people do not want to be traveling back home with stuff they brought up and just want to get rid of it. This fair even has all the traditional shows you see in the movies such as the bearded lady, the man with no head, and they even had one named serpent lady all for the cost of 50 cents. Alpha Sigma Alpha devotes their time into this fair every year and withholds two stands, one where you can play darts and the other where you put a quarter down and spin the wheel to see if the arrow lands on the one you picked. They were able to raise up to 2,000 dollars and was equally split and donated towards the S. June Smith Center and Girls on the
A family filled environment with talking cows telling a customer to "Eat More Chicken", this could only be the famous Chick-fil-A on Rockwell and Northwest Expressway. Aside from visiting the fast food hotspot with my volleyball team every away game we have had since my freshman year, I visit this location with me nieces as well giving me plenty of experience with the environment set forth. Chick-fil-A uses their simple look inside and out, their attentive service, the community based events held at the restaurant, and providing a simple form of information through their website to give a family friendly environment for all ages to come and enjoy while eating their fresh food.
If you ever end up in Iowa during August you have to find a way to stay and experience the Iowa State Fair. You may think that you have experienced a fair before and “if you have seen one you have seen
Restaurants in the area are not a scarce thing; they serve a variety of food at various price ranges. Calhoun’s is a very nice restaurant that serves ribs, steak, and seafood. Calhoun’s is moderate in price. It offers indoor and outdoor dining and also has a bar (http://www.calhouns.com). The Park Grill mainly has ribs and trout but also serves beef, poultry, and pork. Part of the reason for going to the Park Grill is the scenery. It is a very nice log building with many hand carvings. The Peddler has been in operation for twenty years and offers steak and salad. The restaurant is very close to the national park, so it is on the way if you are headed to the park (http://www.peddlerparkgrill.com/peddler.htm). The Park Grill and the Peddler are slightly expensive, but have very good food. The Funnel Cake Company, which has two locations in Gatlinburg and it has been in the business for twelve years, it sells funnel cake mix and gives out recipes (http://www.funnelcake.com).
Today marks the day where the state fair comes to town and they released a new ride called “Erikson’s ride”
However, this is not essential to its purpose. It was compiled to provide visitors with something to look back at and remember the fair, and also as an introduction to the fair for those who could not attend in person. In the forward, Dawes reflected that when the exposition comes to a close, the buildings and physical content of the fair would be gone: "After that the Exposition must live in the memories of men. Such views as these, carrying the color and the atmosphere of the Exposition will serve not only to stimulate memory but to keep it close to the realities of our Exposition."
"Chicago has disappointed her enemies and astonished the world." (310) These quotes, along with many others, show how truly "magical" the Chicago World's Fair actually was. The nightlife was especially extravagant with special shows and attractions that citizens would never be able to see otherwise. As for the quote on page 310, Chicago really did astonish the whole world. The fair was made specifically to show New York who was really boss all while proving to the world that Chicago could create a fair so well put together that it would shame the Paris fair attendance record out of the ballpark by at least 300,000 visitors for one day. This is a national fair, which was specifically designed to attempt to shock the
One reason for this is because their are many competitions the state fair for the biggest or best livestock which brings in many farmers. The reason why these competitions bring so many farmers to the State Fair is because there are so many of them in the rural areas of minnesota which leads to more livestock. The farmers bring their livestock to the fair because they want to win the competitions. Another reason why the livestock bring people to the fair is for the sheer reason that people just want to see the animals. The Minnesota State Fair has so many types of livestock and a lot of each kind so it makes it really interesting to look at all the animals. It also has a birthing center where you can see livestock giving birth to babies. In conclusion, the livestock at the State Fair is a big reason to why thousands of people visit it each
Some people do argue that the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 was just like any other fair that Illinois would have annually. This was ten times different. Not only does it have the words, World’s Fair, in it, but it was already hard just to get Chicago to be a reprehensive for the fair. Other well-known cities, like New York, were in the ballot for voting. Some of the buildings from the far are still standing. Examples are: The Palace of Fine Arts is now the Museum of Science and Industry, the Osaka Japanese Garden, and the
It is Thursday, August 24th, the opening day of the Minnesota State Fair. I am here with my family, a friend and his mom, and one of my sister’s friends. It seems so long since last year’s fair. I always look forward to the state fair, even though it’s pretty much the same every year.
