The initiating event in the novel The Droughtlanders that got the entire story rolling is when Eli follows his mother and sees her talking to a Droughtlander, the very same people he was taught to hate and despise because of the sickness that they carry. When he sees his mother kiss the Droughtlander he is mortified that that his mother would go anywhere near the people that are considered worse than rats. This leads Eli to question his mother, then question his beliefs, and then follow in his mother’s footsteps to bring the keys down.
7) I can imagine myself re-reading this book again in 10 years because this book is amazing and it is perfect for teenagers and young adult readers. This book is griping and beautifully written. When reading this book you get thrown into the apocalyptic setting. I would recommend this book to my friends because I loved it and all the other books in the series. It’s just great.
Part B
2.a) One scene in the novel that I remember well is I the very beginning, at a circus that the Droughtlanders put on. In this scene a circus performer on the tightrope plummets to his death. I remember this because it is so vivid and gives insight on how low the Droughtlanders are considered within the keys. “The acrobat stumbled backward, and then, as the crowd’s gasps lifted into cheers he fell to the concrete floor-.” (p 1) The crowds watched as a young boy fell to his death and they cheered, his death was their entertainment. Because he was
In the article, “Decade of drought”by Anne Capeci and “Drought reports” they both discuss the effects of droughts and use photo graphs to show evidence that droughts are everywhere to begin “decade of droughts” explains how people have no water.for example in Africa they had no fresh water. Without water livestocks will die and wild animals will die from hunger and dehydration additionally the article continues to explain about drought through pictures for example they use pictures to show about what was affected by the drought Capeci reports destructive wildfire are common during droughts in southwest some say that Johnson's article is better but most people would agree that her information to tell about the drought.
Overall, the book is really good and sticks to those three main ideas of courage, weakness and truth throughout it. As both a reader and a writer (I write my own little novels) this book is really goods and i would recommend it to anyone who asks
Once you read one it’s best to read the next so you can keep reading all of the great adventures and rescuing they do. Additionally, I would also recommend to young teenagers about 13-15 who are looking for a good book series to read. That way they would have books to read for a couple months or so without stressing about finding a book. Finally, I would recommend this book to anyone who has previously read any Percy Jackson books. This is because they are a little similar but different when it comes to powers and adventures. That is who I would recommend this book too. I rate this book a 10 because of the way it was written. Each page would have more and more details about that part in the book. If they were in a cell, they would describe the cell. Another thing i really liked about this book is how intriguing it was. When I reading one page it was so interesting I would want to read the next on,then the next one, then the next one, then the I flipped the last page. The book was so good i finished it in two days. This is why I would definitely rate this book a
Women’s Rugby League in Australia constantly growing, and the New South Wales Rugby League took notice after the NSW team broke a 17-year-drought against Queensland earlier in the year, by setting a five year pathway plan to increase participation levels and equality in sport.
It was really a joy reading it and experiencing the tolls of the tragedies on the narrator as I read. However, it was a very sad and moving story that would have you crying at parts and laughing out loud at others. I would suggest this book to anyone, as long as they enjoy books that might make them a bit emotional. Overall, I thought this was one of the best books I have ever read, just the story line was truly fantastic.
In the two short stories “Drought” by Roz Spafford, and “The Provincials”, by Daniel Alarcon, there is one common problem; a drought. In the story “Drought” it is a literal drought causing survival difficulties between a married couple, Chrissie and Clay, and their baby. It continues to get tough between the couple as they distance themselves from one another slowly falling apart. In “The Provincials” however there is a metaphorical drought in a Mexican town, where the father Manuel used to live and the son, Nelson the aspiring actor, lives and the residents lack the necessities to improve their lives while corruption attacks any generation that follows. The lack of essential necessities in “Drought” signifies death while the metaphorical drought in “The Provincials” leaves the town with no money or opportunity signifying causing hopeless lives.
Do you believe in happy endings? If you do this is the book for you, most of the time. This book is very exciting, nerve-wracking, and sometimes a bit dramatic. Also, if you want to know it always leaves you on a cliffhanger and you never want to put it down. Wait, you’re saying this is exciting, how?
Overall, this is a very good. I enjoyed reading this book, and I actually kind of aspire to read it once more. This book is an eye-opener for the potential of post-apocalyptic books, and makes me want to read more. Not only is this book very suspenseful, and overall fun to read, but it also teaches the reader lessons that can be used within real life. I was very happy with the plot of this book, and all of its
In source one, “The Drought”, it talks about what happened during the drought and how it affected everyone. For example, paragraph one it says, “The drought hit first in the eastern part of the country in 1930”. In source two, “Letter from Mrs. Caroline A. Henderson, wife of an Oklahoma farmer”, it talks about how Mrs. Caroline explains to her friend Evelyn about what’s going on in Oklahoma. For example, paragraph two it says, “The prospects for what a crop in 1936 still remain extremely doubtful”.
teens long for and how lost they feel in this point in their lives trying to truly find themselves with a whole lot of chaos already happening with this process of growing up, but this truly captures the mind of the youth. The plot keeps you engaged and excited for what is to come, (which is how i finished this book in two days!) , and as for the writing and writing style, it was simple, but it made you think much about how you live your life, and how you should, which I believe is what counted and mattered in the end.
I thought this book was fairly good. The author does an exceptional job making Ruby this normal, average, teenage girl and just like the rest of the world, could never have dreamed that the toxic rain would happen.
I found this book to be very entertaining and well written. I really loved how the author wrote about the invasion throughout the book instead of right in the beginning. I loved how well the characters were developed. Number Four was developed as a shy kid that isn’t afraid to stand up for himself. His new friend was developed as a paranoid nerd, and lastly, his love interest was developed as a strong, and independent girl that was an avid photographer and wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself. I loved the point of view because the story was narrated through Number Four’s eyes and I felt as though I
Exploring What a Drought Is Drought is a long period of dry weather when there is no rainfall at all for weeks, months or even years. Rivers and streams stop flowing. Water in pools, ponds, or reservoirs dries out. Plants die. Drought becomes a natural disaster.
I would recommend this book to a friend because this book is a dystopian page turner. This book leaves you wanting to know what happens next and a bit emotional toward the end. This is the next story to read for Hunger Games, Divergent, and Delirium fans.
Shirley. Let’s talk about the book. We asked some of viewers, because everyone has a voice, to send in their opinions and questions about the book, so if you don’t mind, you could address some of them?
