Currently I work at a school that I have been at for the ten years. As a former Special Education teacher and second grade teacher, I have been able to view the academic picture from multiple vantage points. As a campus, we have consistently seen success in the area of math, however, reading has been an area of inconsistencies. When I began to look at data from recent years I noticed something in particular regarding third grade. In viewing our school data one of the first things that caught my eye was the fact that in third grade we had a 19.8% retention rate (Texas Education Agency, 2014). That particular grade level had the highest retention rate in the entire school. Looking further at the data, I discovered that during the 2013-2014 …show more content…
(Counselors Affecting Reading Everyday). My plan would involve developing one-on-one counseling sessions where the students would start off by taking a learning style inventory as well as a reading interest inventory. The purpose of the learning style inventory would be to help the students as well as their teachers to understand how each individual child learns and processes information. The reading interest inventory would serve the purpose of helping the students to find a particular type of text that they may enjoy reading. Upon completion of the learning style inventory and reading interest inventory, the students would begin meeting with the counselor to receive one-on-one reading opportunities using books that students self-select based on their interest. This one-on-one meeting will serve to meet the needs of those students who stated that they did not have anyone at home to read with. The students will utilize the school’s Accelerated Reading program to take quizzes on the books they read with the counselor. After earning their first five Accelerated Reading points, a book will be purchased for the student based on their interest. This incentive plan will serve as a means to provide personal books for those students that do not own any as well as attempting to help them to get over the fear or taking reading tests. During these weekly meetings, the counselor will provide a variety of reading text (based on student
Melissa is driving through her neighborhood, talking on a cell phone. Because she is distracted, she missed the new stop sign that was put in at an intersection. A police officer sees this and promptly pulls her over. When asked why she didn’t stop at the stop sign, Melissa replies that she didn’t see the sign. Melissa most likely did see the sign, her brain just didn’t process it correctly.
On September 11, 2015, I was pulled over and accused of going 76mph on a road where the speed limit was 45mph. At first I was in shock because I was unaware that my driving was so recklessly, however, that same day one of my tires was found to be flat resulting in a trip to Tire Kingdom to purchase a new tire. When I arrived, a few of the mechanics on duty commented on the size of my tires. They informed me that the rims that were on my car at the time, and had been on my car since before I bought it, were nineteen inches long and the rims designed for my car are supposed to be fifteen inches long. They then went on to explain that due to the size of the tires versus the size of the car, my speedometer was actually displaying my speed to be
After completing this assignment, I feel as though the way I think and my outlook on certain things has changed in small, yet significant ways. For example, one of the most interesting myths, myth 28 (There’s Safety in Numbers), has changed the way I will react in situations of emergency. Having the awareness of the tendency to ignore someone in need when in a crowd will help me to overcome that tendency and actually help. I also found myths 15 (IQ Tests Are Biased against Certain Groups of People) and 20 (Researchers Have Demonstrated That Dreams Possess Symbolic Meaning) very interesting. I held some belief that dreams meant something more than just the random occurrences we see, so knowing they hold no insight into our minds and psyches makes me feel less distrait. As for myth 15, I simply found it amazing that so many people would rather blame the IQ tests for the inconsistencies in scores, rather than look deeper and take responsibility for the social disadvantages and prejudices against groups.
I met my best friend Briana Williams when I was eight years old, in the second grade at Flat Rock Elementary School. Ms. Wyatt our second grade teacher would always line us up next to each other because we were both about the same height. Before you knew it we began forming a friendship.
When I first started working on my concentration, I planned on exploring the relationship between people and technology. As the exam date was steadily approaching, I only had a couple of pieces completed, so time was of the essence. However, I was notified by my teacher that I wasn’t allowed to use two of the pieces I created because the school district deemed them ‘not appropriate for a high school level portfolio’ and she could get into trouble, or even fired, if I included them in my portfolio. As a student, I was conflicted because I loved the art that I created, but I also love my teacher and I would never want her to get into trouble because my actions. So, I decided to change my concentration with a week left before the exam date. Each
It was just a typical night on April 20th, 2015, that I was on my computer talking with my friend through Skype who gave me the idea to make an account on Skout because I was stil trying to get over the break up with Chris. And that's how it all started.... I was just scrolling down then I noticed a certain picture of someone that caught my attention. And it was YOU. I knew from the moment I saw your picture on Skout I know you were gonna be someone special in my life. I didn't know wether or not to message you first or wait and see if you were to ever message me first. But my friend told me to take the courage to send you a simple message to see if you would even message. The next day to my suprise to see that you had actually replied. You
1 score and 5 years ago I was asked to write a paper about today. Surprisingly I was spot on. Thanks to my family and all my teachers throughout my college years I am a successful Audio Engineer. I started off this journey 26 years ago in 2014 after being released from a prison program called Miami-Dade County Boot Camp. There I learned the discipline it takes to be successful at anything you want to do in your life.
•What sources did you use most in your reading? How did you find these sources?
I can remember that day, sitting in the auditorium with my daughter. It was her sixth grade orientation for middle school. We moved in the middle of her fifth grade year to the next town, which was only twenty minutes away. Siting and watching as parents came in with their children. Unfortunately, my husband was out of town on business and I was five months pregnant. I recognized several of the people as they sat with their families and groups of friends.

I have always been the person people go to for answers. Since seventh grade I have been in honors classes; I was the only seventh grader in an eighth grade math class. I had never been so nervous walking in to class in my life. My legs were trembling and my hands were shaking. I walked around the room hoping to find a seat not in the back so I do not show my teacher I do not care; but not in the front so my classmates think I am a kiss up. I sat in between two boys, and tried to not let them see how intimidated I actually am by them.
Innovation: An initiative, practice, or objective that is modern by individual or other elements of acceptance (Rogers, 2003).
Teachers are in a profession that requires a lifelong approach to learning; the direction of this unit is at exploring one's own capabilities, and to start scaffolding our own learning. Knowing what one can do, can direct one to further improvements (Dinham, 2014, pp. 62-63). This unit is a great start to personal learning of the arts. There is evidence of improvement of learning and have responded to the above in an appropriate way with in text references, in a creative thinking self-expression meaning making of ideas.
As discussed, following are the activities scheduled for 10 & 12th OCT’16, for which operational interruption is anticipated for execution.
