Social media has been known to have positive and negative effects on the happiness of college students. There are many outcomes to the use of social media and many of them can be detrimental to a student’s happiness. Social media can also encourage new bad behaviors in teenagers who are easily influenced. Teens that use social media must learn to prioritize their lives in order to prevent disorder in their lives. It can also be very helpful for some teens that are socially shy and need new ways of making friends. Many teens today struggle with being shy and don’t know how to interact with their peers. Sites like twitter and Facebook are a gateway in helping these teens

Are we becoming less human with the passing of each day? Have we become too dependent on technology, specifically social media? In this day and age, people have different views on social media. They question its true purpose and its effect on society as a whole. With that said, although there are many thoughts concerning the topic/trend of social media something that is undoubtedly true is that social media plays an active role in the lives of the majority of people. Whether in a positive or negative way, social media influences the lives of all people. However this paper focuses on the effect of social media on college students. It addresses both the positive and negative effects of social media on those in college; focusing on a student’s academic efficiency, social interactive skills, and overall productivity.
Social Networking is the use of websites such as Facebook, MySpace,Twitter,LinkedIn, and classmates.com to communicate with other users (Hampton). On social media like these, users are able to develop biographical profiles as well as communicating, researching, and also sharing photos, links, videos, music, and more. Advocates of social networking sites conclude that online communities promote increased interaction with friends and family and also offer teachers, librarians, and students beneficial access to educational support and materials, facilitate social and political change, and distributing useful information promptly. This impact social networking sites are suggesting leads to my impression that social networking sites are good for
There is many reasons why social networking also has a positive impact on today’s society. Social networking such a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and many more is a excellent way of talking to people when you are not able to see someone in person. Social media is a great resource and can be used to connect with new friends from college to just talk and to work on group projects. Jon Russell once said, “Social Media presents a huge opportunity for schools, universities and other educational organizations to reach out and connect with students and prospective students”. With no doubt, social media has influenced the way students are educated today. For those of you who do not know the exact definition of social media, the social media means ways of sharing information, opinions, images, videos using the Internet, especially social networking sites. Because of the Internet, people started finding ways to socialize through social websites and exchange information. Popular social network on the Internet such as YouTube became a sensation for me ever since I became a student in college. Today social media can be used for educational purposes. The ways social media is changing education has affected how the students express themselves, behave, and interact with each other.
Social scientists and media experts have been wondering about the benefit of social networking that can bring communication. With social media, you can stay in contact with family members that are in long distances from where you live. Staying in contact with friends from school and getting to know them better, is also good for socializing and meeting new people and a great way to get away from your comfort zone. In school, you can also use the network/social media in case the teacher needs you to go look for something related to social media. Say for instance, my business teacher told us to go on Twitter and follow three people related to business on our computers.
Despite the unhealthy impact of social media many students are spending most of their hours on social media sites which includes the most popular Facebook, Whats app, Twitter and Instagram. Social media has embedded a negative image upon many minds. Social media has equal positive or negative aspects but many students are using these sites on a regular basis. Over the years many studies have been conducted over the impact of social media on academic performance of students and it indicatea strong relationship between the two variables. Therefore, our research aims to study the relationship between the social media and students education’.
