Imagine that, you are about to kill someone. But if you kill him, the apartment that you inside will be poisoned for years. That’s what nuclear weapons do. In 1945, US army dropped a nuclear weapon on a city called Hiroshima in japan. After a few seconds, every living thing in the city was dead. After 72 years, people still can’t grow plants on the lands of Hiroshima. I believe that; people shouldn’t be allowed to use nuclear weapons. Because; firstly, it’s not just killing the people that attacked you it’s also killing the new born babies. Secondly, the radiation that comes out of the bomb is poisoning the lands and people are not being allowed to grow anything on them for a long time. And for last, they are people and the people should not
In August of 1945, two nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan, consequently, killing tens of thousands of civilians due to radiation, burns, or turning them immediately into ash. The monstrous bomb sneaks up on innocent civilians and rips their life from them in one foul swoop. The Atomic bomb kills masses of people at one time, but can also save masses of people’s lives from the ongoing war. Herein lies the conflict, since the nuclear bomb is extremely lethal, but effective, should it be used in war? Do you believe that this act was ethical? The atomic bomb should have never been used in past wars and should never be used today because its deadly side effects.
The power to destroy a civilization with a single weapon surely should not exist; however, nothing can fully prohibit all nuclear weapons. The high casualties that Japan had encountered were a loud message to the whole rest of the world portraying that exact statement. The diseases and hardships that the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had dealt with are situations the world fears; therefore,
However, SOX was not the end of the story. 2008 ushered in, what is now
Even though the case of morality against using nuclear weapons is a very strong one it is very important to place their use in light of World War II and the total war that the world was experiencing. During World War II the vast majority of the world had thrown aside morality in favor a deadly struggle to defend against the large scale attacks of expansionists and fascism. The use of conventional bombing by either side was widespread and considered justified use of military force even though this form of attack produced massive civilian casualties. These mass bombing attacks were centered on crippling the enemy’s ability to produce war machines which were legal military targets and in so doing this type of bombing was considered justified use of military force. When America attacked Hiroshima and Nagasaki they bombed legitimate military targets and President Truman and his advisors considered them justifiable
After reading our literature, I do not believe that the United States was justified in using nuclear weapons against the Japanese Civilians. The video, Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, showed the devastating affects that this caused on people not immediately killed by the blast. It was a terrible sight to see some of those innocent children suffering in the video. It was said that the energy alone from the bombs was the equivalent of being dropped into the sun. 100,000 people died with those blasts. I also personally feel that this was not an ethical decision due to the severity of damage and the loss of innocent lives.
The use of nuclear weaponry, or threat thereof, in a time of war could be a major aspect in the result of the war. It could either further progress the length and casualty occurrence in the war, or it could result in an immediate halt of conflict due to the amount of casualties and catastrophic damage from the bomb. However, just because the use of such weaponry is potentially necessary, does not mean it is ethical. The chaos caused by a nuclear weapon has the potential to scar the lives
The two atomics bombings dropping on Japan are forever remembered today as a changing moment in history. The US dropped the atomic bomb called “Little Boy” on Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945. Only three days later on August 9th, 1945, the second atomic bomb called “Fat Man” was dropped on Nagasaki. This has been the only time that nuclear weapons have been used in war. These bombs have been questioned through history if it was moral or immoral correct. However, the bombs were definitely a moral decision, which helped the country immeasurably. The atomic bombing of Japan was a military success, and a moral decision because it was less harmful than the fire bombings and it helped the country immeasurably.
Popular Sovereignty is a concept where the power of government in a democracy is granted by us who elected that government. This is the idea of people having the power to vote and have a voice in the government. We have the constitution that was made by James Madison in order to limit both the powers of government and the powers of the people according to the discussion. Madison made the constitution to deal with factions so no single group or faction will be too powerful compared to the others. According to the discussion and videos, faction is a group of people working to benefit itself at the cost of others.
Nuclear weapons are one of, if not the most dangerous weapons in the world today and they are one of the biggest issues the world faces at this current moment. They have the capability of destroying entire cities and then some that could result in millions of deaths within seconds. Radiation from the blasts would kill even more people throughout years to come. They were first used in 1945 at the end of World War II, when the United States dropped Little Boy and Fat Man in Hiroshima and Nagasaki to ‘save’ the lives of American soldiers. Since then, a nuclear arms race was born and it’s becoming more of a concern as time moves forward. Albert Einstein, who was the creator of the nuclear bomb once said “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” Countries should not have access to nuclear weapons because it destroys the environment, there is a possibility of a nuclear war that will end in mass destruction of the world, and countries could save both revenue and resources.
Even though nuclear power plants threaten the health and safety of many people, nuclear energy is being used in other ways as well, which may be even more dangerous. In 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, in order to end World War II. This event was the only time a nuclear weapon was used in the history. During the first two to four months, approximately 90,000 to 166,000 people died as a result. Wilfred Burchett quoted, “When you arrive in Hiroshima, you can look around and for 25 and perhaps 30 square miles you can neither see hardly a building nor a standing human. All of them are collapsed on the ground.” Yet, having seen the destructive effects of nuclear weapons, the United States currently still owns more than 7000 nuclear weapons, in which half of them could be launched in less than ten minutes. Russia is believed to be a holder of the same number or more nuclear weapons as well. The United States and Russia are the two countries with the most nuclear weapons, but in total, the number adds up to around 19,000 worldwide. Many people do not give a thought about this dangerous situation, since these weapons are
In 1945, two atomic bombs were dropped over Japan on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which resulted in thousands of civilian deaths and a detrimental impact on the environment.
“On August 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb used in warfare was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan” (Davis 395). Atomic bombs are highly powerful weapons. They produce enormous clouds of radioactive substances. Therefore, in addition to the people who die from the bomb’s massive explosion, other people also become ill and eventually die from the intense exposure to radiation (Davis). Because of its destruction, many people question whether the use of the atomic bomb was needed or not. It is always unfortunate for innocent lives to be loss. However, for the greater cause of the United States’, I agree with the use of the atomic bomb.
In 1945, a great technological innovation was dropped over Japan, the atomic bomb. Ever since the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the world has faced the threat of nuclear attack. In reaction to this, world governments have been forced to find a defense against nuclear attack. One solution to the danger of nuclear attack is the use of nuclear deterrence. Nuclear deterrence is the possession and launching of nuclear weapons for the sole purpose of defense and retaliation against a nuclear attack from another country. Nuclear deterrence is the best answer to the danger of nuclear war, resulting in world security and the prevention of nuclear war. However, some people believe
One of the foremost growing concerns in the modern globalized world is the increasing rate of nuclear proliferation. Coupled with the burgeoning number of nuclear devices is the threat of a terrorist possibly obtaining a weapon of such magnitude. While one could argue that the rising number of states with nuclear capability is a disturbing prospect, particularly as many pursue such capabilities without the approval of the “traditional” nuclear powers, terrorists in possession of nuclear arms presents the most horrific outlook concerning nuclear proliferation. Terrorist groups, unlike states, are not organized governmental bodies, which complicates any means of formalized diplomacy or negotiation. Furthermore, unlike as compared to a
