I want to be successful and that is my main goal. This year, especially, I have been working hard to reach my educational goals. I know I am a smart student and I need to work to my full potential. When I am off on my own I want to be responsible and independent instead of relying on my mom all of the time. I plan to work even harder in the future so I can achieve many things. I want to be able to choose my own career, be happy with it, and be the successful person I know I can be.
However, it was difficult for me to find that I wanted my major to be nursing. I’ve grown up around a couple of nurses throughout my life. The person that inspired me the most to become a nurse was my grandma. She was such a hard working and well respected person her entire life. I remember all of the stories she used to tell me while I was growing up about all of the people she helped. I then realized I wanted to do the same and help others.
After deciding that I wanted to help people in need, it took me some time to figure out a solid major. I did a lot of research projects in many of my classes and that helped with the elimination process. Once I decided on nursing, I realized I need to decide what part of nursing I would like to go into. I am still working on that part, but I believe I have a lot of things figured out.

There are many things that I will need to learn to do on my own such as paying bills and other important things. My life is going to change instantly and I’ll admit that I am afraid of what the future holds for me. I believe that my fear could be a setback for me. There will be times when I just want to give up because I’ll be so overwhelmed. Money will also be a disadvantage to me because I know I don’t have that much and college can be very expensive. I plan on getting a job so I can pay for these important things as
There are many different fields to choose from while working as a Registered Nurse. “Registered nurses work in hospitals, physicians' offices, home healthcare services, and nursing care facilities. Others work in correctional facilities, schools, or serve in the military.” (bls.gov). You can also specialize in a specific type of nursing by seeking employment in that individual line of work or by taking a certification test. “The Nursing2011 Salary Survey reports that nurses certified in a specialty earn an average of $10,200 per year more than nurses who are not.” (pncb.org). If you choose to go further with your education you can continue past a bachelor’s degree and get a master’s degree becoming a nurse practitioner.
Nursing is the most trusted and reliable profession leading in the transformation of healthcare. “Nursing helps to promote, protect, and optimization of health and abilities to prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities and populations” (American Nursing Association, 2017). Nursing offered careers for both men and women and it is the profession that provides healthcare everywhere. Society has great expectations for this profession. Caregivers are one the reasons why nursing is seen as the engine room of healthcare system. In the quest to provide preventive and restorative measures. There are three basic career guides which are; education, job opportunities, and salary.
As a college student you are told to pick a major that you have interest in. As a little girl, I have always wanted to have a meaningful career. Don’t get me wrong; there are so many careers that have done incredible things for people and the world, but I wanted to find something I am passionate about. After earning my Certified Nursing Assistant, I am going to be a nursing
The factor that made my decision to choose nursing as my major was mother, Esther. My mother has been a registered nurse for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, my mom would bring me to work with her on some of her night shifts at A.I DuPont Children’s Hospital. I remember going to each room and visiting the patients. It made me happy that my mom was their nurse, and was there to help them get better. As I got older, that feeling of me wanting to make a difference in someone else’s life never went away. There are many different types of nurses in the nursing field. My field of preference is to become a Neonatal Nurse. I enjoy working with babies, and studying closely on how they grow, and develop. Some of the characteristics my mom
Joining sides with the nurse, my family drilled the idea of nursing into my brain. Nursing and forfeiting my plan seemed to become a necessity for a successful life. After hearing people tell me what I should do, I eventually started to agree with them. The actions of my family along with the way it affected me could compare to when someone tells a lie enough times, they'll believe it to be true. I never believed I wanted to be something more than I did at that
Born the third of eight children, my highly traditional Mennonite parents raised me to follow the roles and rules of the church and I was homeschooled all twelve years of schooling. As a female, college, a career, and working outside the home was not encouraged by the church or my parents. Yet, when I turned eighteen, I learned of a job opportunity as a caregiver and accepted the part-time position. This job ultimately changed my life. For two years, I cared for a beloved elderly lady. I found extreme satisfaction in providing bedside care, and my dream of becoming a nurse was born. Shortly before she passed away, I remember holding that dear woman’s frail hand. She whispered to me, “You need to become a nurse. You are smart, you are strong, and you can help change the world.” I had so many doubts, but I felt the calling to become a nurse and had a deep desire in my heart
When I was a kid, I dreamt of being a doctor. No matter what game I was playing, I always tried involving the roles of doctors. Growing up I knew this is what I wanted to do. This is what interested me. As I got older I turned more to nursing and I can see myself doing this. Nurses have to be graduated from college nursing program and passed a national licensing exam. Nurses take tasks to take care for their patients on the daily. They keep medical records, provide mediation, they talk with other help care providers, monitor patients, and give educational information to families. Being a nurse definitely has its pros and cons. It often takes away from your home life; being available to 24-hour work shifts, but being a nurse you have to make
I was always undecided regarding the career that I wanted to pursue. As I got older and looked at many choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. Being a nurse interests me because it requires the study of the human body along with other great opportunities that nurses have in this career. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who are in need.
In high school, I was thinking about becoming a teacher or a nurse. I eventually decided to major in nursing. In high school I had taken a variety of science courses which I enjoyed. My favorite course was anatomy and physiology. I also became certified in CPR,First Aid, and AED in March. Volunteering at the Michigan blood drive also motivated me to pursue nursing as a career. I knew I liked helping people and I wanted to take that further. As a result I choose to major in nursing.
Having a baby is a special time in a family’s life. It is an unforgettable experience. If you ask any woman about the birth of her child, she can recount every single detail even several years later. Labor and delivery nurses have the distinct privilege of getting to be a part of this special time. They get to rejoice with moms and dads when, after years of infertility, a sweet baby is born, cry when a dad cries after holding his child for the first time, and get excited when a mom of three boys has her first little girl. These nurses get to experience a miracle every time they go to work. I first learned about this profession when my friend told me about her experience shadowing a labor and delivery nurse. Her story immediately sparked an interest in my heart. This career seemed to be a combination of all the things I love and do best: coaching, supporting, and caring for others. I want to be a labor and delivery nurse because I would get to touch the lives of thousands of babies and mothers and know that I made a difference.
In my understanding the role of the professional nurse is to provide care but also serve as listeners, conversationalists, and companions for patients. Nurses are considered the most accessible member of the health care team and is their job to provide patients with information needed in order to handle any concerns the patient might have. I have chosen to pursue nursing as a career because of my mother and the fact that I love helping out people. My mother has inspired me to choose Nursing because unfortunately, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Throughout the process every time I went with her to her appointments we always met nurses that provided care for her. Also, I saw other patients that were going through the same thing. I was
I never wanted to be a nurse. Growing up I always struggled with what I wanted to be. I wanted to be everything from a doctor, a fighter pilot, to a lawyer. But being a nurse was never part of that list. Throughout most of high school I wanted to be a doctor and then towards the end an engineer. By the time I started college I was still unsure of what exactly I wanted to do with the rest of my life. All I knew was that I wanted to help people I was just unsure of what capacity I was going to do it in. That all changed in my junior year at Texas A&M. College is the place where you’re supposed to find yourself. Well I might have found myself a little late in my college career, but I did find myself. Its where I found what I truly wanted out
Ever since I was young, I always wanted to have a career in which I would help people. I had difficulties deciding specifically on nursing as a career, but I came to this decision because I realized that I wanted to be
Hearing a mother shout with joy as she welcomes her brand new baby boy, and hearing his little cry as I clean him off to weigh him; this is the life of a nurse, and soon this will be my life. There are many different career choices in today’s time. Many people strive to find a job they love to go to everyday and feel good about doing. For me, my dream job is to become a labor and delivery registered nurse. As expected, there is a lot of work to get to where you want to be. Schooling, and experience in the field is the hardest thing of all. Labor and delivery nurses are nurses that assist women during the process of childbirth. This job is very intense and requires long hours of standing. Though the job description is clear the duties will vary and will be much more than expected.
I decided to go into nursing when my family had almost lost my father about 6 years ago. My dad had gotten very sick and had been going to countless doctors and not one had a clue why he was getting so ill. He was diagnosed with the worse type of pneumonia and doctors had told us there is not much more they could do for him anymore and this is in God’s hands now. A nurse that had been treating my dad had taken a special interest in my family. The nurse was doing research to try to find some medication that could help him and she saved his life. She took the extra mile to help my dad and my family and without her who knows if my dad would even be with us today. This nurse had inspired me to want to help and treat people the way she did with my dad. The type of nurse I want to be is an ICU (intensive care unit) nurse. I think I am a good fit for this job because I love science and the study of the human body. I want to go into nursing so I can get up every day and be happy about going to work.
