Nursing Goal Statement

In the near future, I will graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from East Carolina University. Guiding my ultimate nursing goals is my love for children. As a mother already, I have learned and immensely enjoyed my journey with my six-year-old child thus far. However, I would love to expand my knowledge on the unique needs of the pediatric patient population. The pediatric patient population is very diverse, due to the various stages of life within this populace. In the near future, I hope to expand my understanding and experience with pediatric patients through becoming a registered nurse on a pediatric nursing unit within a hospital. However within ten years, my goal is to become a school nurse. This being said, there is an extensive field of knowledge and training I will need to gain in order to achieve my ultimate nursing goal of serving all children in their medical and developmental needs.

I have always believed in giving back to the community and in sharing my competencies and skills with others. My desire to help people in the field of nursing has powered my decision to take up a graduate degree in Nursing. A nurse has the power and privilege to help patients who are hurting, both emotionally and physically. My mission is to be part of the solution by becoming a well-trained nurse through continuous educational and medical pursuits. For instance, I am actively pursuing volunteer and employment opportunities to work with the underserved because it is a true passion of mine. Furthermore, I personally relate to the dent that a shortage of staff leaves in its wake because I used to live in an underserved community and was forced to move to New York due to my son’s medical condition. E. Applied Leadership E.2.a I thoroughly enjoyed the Professional Roles and Values course because there were several key things I could utilize in my career. Information from professional nursing organizations was informative and can give new nurses a guideline of the expectations from a professional nurse. New nurses are usually lost when they are right out of nursing school and do not realize the expectations and responsibilies of being a professional even when they are not in the work place. The class renewed my beliefs as a professional nurse about professionalism in the community, interactions with others, decision making, and positive compassionate attitude of a nurse. Like most other professions, nursing is controlled by government regulatory agencies and professional organizations. For instance, boards of nursing in various states are the government entities mandated to regulate nursing at the state level, while the American Nurses Association is a professional organization that governs nursing at the nation level. Regulatory agencies and professional organizations are guided by the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities.

I am applying to the Walden M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. I plan to practice as a licensed professional in counseling and Higher Education. I have always wanted to be a Clinical Mental Health Psychologist, working with individuals to help improve their mental and emotional health is something that I am committed to. Starting this program now is the best time because the information that I learned from my undergrad career would help me to be more successful in my grad career by learning more but at an advanced level. Once I receive my degree I plan to go back to school to get my doctorate degree in psychology, and utilize the skills that I have learned to open my own private practice that helps individuals who suffer with mental and emotional disabilities, within my practice I plan to let each individual patient talk about their issues and come up with a strategic plan for treatment. The personal qualities that I possess are having self-confidence and the ability to work and collaborate with others having the ability to be receptive to feedback while maintaining a positive attitude.

After graduating from Blackhawk Technical College my nursing career will begin at St. Mary's Janesville Hospital as a surgical/pediatric nurse. I am excited to begin this journey within an organization I have been a part of since before the doors opened in January of 2012. St. Mary's Janesville is partnered with several colleges offering ADN to BSN degrees. My future goals include enrolling and completing an ADN to BSN degree program by December of 2020. In addition to earning my BSN by 2020, my goals also include obtaining my ACLS and PALS certificates within four months of hire.

I have decided to set theses goal because I have passion working as a nurse practitioner or a clinical nurse specialist and I really enjoy studding and learning the information in the nursing field. I like this career because I enjoy practicing the patient care and having a positive role in the people life. My goal is to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Trinity Washington University. After working in government and as a massage therapist, I realized that I have a calling in health care. In order to become a great nurse that provides optimal care, I need to be educated by the best institution. I am dedicated to putting in the time and effort to gain all of the knowledge Trinity Washington University can provide me, as I start my journey to the health care field.

As a competent registered nurse, my career goal is to become a healthcare quality improvement leader, a position that would enhance my commitment in promoting patient safety. I not only believe in enhancing the capacity of other care providers, but also in improving the quality of the healing environment for the benefit of both patients and their care providers. This means not only promoting collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams, but also building the necessary healing partnerships with our patients. To enhance the quality of the healing environment, I aspire to continue analyzing researches for evidence based practices and advocating for their actualization. I am a nursing student. I have a great passion for caring for others. My short term goals are to graduate Riverland Community College with my Associate's Degree in Nursing this December. I plan to work very hard and prepare to take my nursing licensure exam at the beginning of next year to become licensed as a registered nurse. Nursing is a career which I believe that needs to come from the heart and I have at all times appreciated with respect. My aim in doing my education in nursing was because I always wanted to achieve an extended and successful profession in the health and medical field. In my personal philosophy, it is my goal to assure that my patients receive the upmost quality care. Although each working shift I am faced with many undaunting challenges, it is still my calling that the patients who remain under my care for 12 hours remain without harm. According to the Arkansas State Board of Nursing (2017),” The mission of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing is to protect the public and act as their advocate by effectively regulating the practice of nursing” (para. 1). Once completing my education and seating before the NCLEX boards, I took an oath to act in accordance with this mission. In my current student status, transforming my diploma degree into a baccalaureate degree, I will now learn to integrate new Quality and Safety Education for Nursing competencies into my philosophy.

Becoming a nurse has always been an aspiration of mine, I’ve always wanted a job that uses my caring nature and becoming a nurse seems like the perfect fit. Any job can be rewarding but working in the medical field where you can help save lives, make differences and be supportive at a person’s time of need is at the top of my list when I think of a rewarding career.
