You will see the responsibilities people took without having a nurse in the early American writing. Nursing didn’t appear in the American writing The Great Gatsby, it was more about having a good time. One of the famous writers Ernest Hemingway was a medical soldier during WW1. Nursing has been demonstrated in movies and painting giving you the impression what it is and tasks they had . If there wasn’t any people who could take care/help one another there might not being writings that include the similarities of being a nurse. It has been apart of the early American literature like in the Of Plymouth Plantation. People were getting ill from a disease called scurvy from lacking vitamin C. There was six or seven who took care of those people despite the possibility of getting infected with the diseases. They made them fires, dressed them,made their beds, washed their clothes, unclothed and clothed. Those are all the things that nurses do now today.
In the pre-modern era of American writing not all stories dealt with helping people. Like in the story The Great Gatsby all they cared about was having and good time. The characters wasn’t worried about taking care of themselves medically. In the story it mentioned the billboard of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg and shows how even though with the purpose of having a billboard of a doctor people still wasn’t caring about their health.
Ernest Hemingway only at 18 years old volunteered to be a ambulance driver for the American Red Cross in France. He was later transferred to the Italian front where he got injured by a Austrian motor shell. He was unconscious but after regaining his consciousness he carried a wounded soldier to the first aid dugout. Even with him still at his worst he was able to help a badly injured soldier.
