Leadership prerequisite acquires the necessity of being proactive and having credibility. Leaders have an obligation to the staff and to the community to cultivate an environment that is transparent in all facets. The role of a leader is to provide an impressive challenge, and invest in the individual to inspire that greatness transpires. Ultimately, an effective leadership is about inspiring a group of individuals to achieve extraordinary things. Although leadership is a job of putting greatness into people, there are a host of characteristics and background experiences that a leader should possess.

A good nurse leader conducts patient rounding. As I conduct my rounds, the patient’s perception of the quality of care being received is a vital key to growth. Introducing oneself as a nurse leader and asking the patient or family about their experience is high priority. Assisting in a patient’s recovery, reuniting families, or bonding with fellow nurses are special benefits of the job. I can recall the day I transitioned from being a staff nurse into a leadership role. At first, I felt incompetent and questioned myself how am I to lead my colleagues when I am still learning as well. Remembering, what my mentors exhibited how to authentically care for my co-workers and patients, what team work truly meant, and to provide guidance to the staff. My nursing career has offered me many opportunities to grow as a professional and as a leader. Applying for the Educational Advancement for Registered Nurses (EARN) Program to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) has been an exciting and a new journey of vast information to learn more leadership aspects.
