Health is another key concept in the metaparadigm I believe to influence nursing concept. I believe that health may include the absence of disease, but also obtaining wellness to the ill. Health exists independently from illness because it does change depending on life circumstances.
Describe the definition of nursing as put forward by the American Nurses Association. How does it address the metaparadigm theories of nursing?
In this paper, the author will share her views, values, and beliefs about the four main concepts of the nursing metaparadigm which includes the person, health, nursing and environment. There are many important components that encompass what nursing care is. Nursing is not only a science that focuses on a disease process but also an art form that works to heal all areas of a patient including the body, mind, and spirit.
Fawcett developed four nursing concepts to create the metaparadigm (Alligood, 2014). The four concepts that make up a metaparadigm are person, environment, health, and nursing. Each one of these is considered a paradigm that help make up the metaparadigm. The concepts are described as the one receiving the treatment, the environment that they are in, what health problems the person receiving the treatment has, and the care that is provided by the nurses (Masters, 2014). “Metaparadigm concepts influences nurses’ understanding of what nursing is, and especially their understanding that nursing is an intellectual discipline and not only skills used in the care of people who are sick” (Lee & Fawcett, 2013, p. 97). Each of the four concepts
The metaparadigm of nursing refers to the concepts of person, environment, health/illness and nursing (Friberg & Creasia, 2015). The definition of nursing the ANA uses (Bickford, Marion, & Gazaway, 2015), relates to care ideas present in all aspects of nursing regardless of the specific field of nursing. Basic tenets like promoting, protecting and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, facilitating healing, alleviating suffering, and being health-care advocates for patients, families, groups, communities and populations, all fall under the concepts in the metaparadigm. A nursing theory describes, predicts of explains the relationships between the concepts defined by the
A nurse is a person who had been educated with skill, knowledge and qualified in taking care of the sick and disabled. Many theorists now have come to concede on the vital factors of ‘nursing’ as conceptualizing practice by ‘nurses’ of nurturing for people in need of care to accomplish particular objective of ‘health’ within a given situation (Hall and Ritchie, 2010). According to Orr (1977), nursing is being a professional worker and making use of the tools of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation, so that nursing care is not a ‘trial and error’ approach but a realistic measure built to diagnose each patient’s requirement.
As we read in the book, the whole concept of nursing is based on four main subjects; health, person, environment and nursing. All of nursing based researches are on the foundation of one of these important concepts. In order to develop an in-depth analysis and beneficial research, the researcher need to develop a very good understanding of a theory which is describing the project and provide a complete framework to establish and work on it. as book explains, the metaparadigm concept is the most global perspective of a discipline and act as framework within which the more restricted structure develop (Eckberg &Hill , 1979).
Nursing is the care, advocacy, optimization of health and competence. It is the prevention of illness
The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon my original definition of nursing metaparadigm concepts critically, and to determine if any changes in my perception towards practice have occurred. The focus of the paper is to critically analyze the transformations that have occurred in my approach to practice. The critical analysis of nursing metaparadigm concepts has resulted in the transformation of my thinking regarding a person, nursing, and environment while my perception regarding the health remains same. Firstly, I discovered the importance of the concept of development in the definition of a person. Secondly, I learned that nursing care should be flexible and should move around the person and their
The final component of the metaparadigm is “nursing”. Nursing refers to delivery of optimal health outcomes for the patient, based on the patients’ health action. Nurses are required to have specialized training and knowledge. This includes experience with hands on nursing care, communication, medical knowledge and technical skills. Nurses will be communicating with patients, their families and other professionals on a regular basis. While applying these skills it is important for nurse to show their patients a caring supportive and compassionate environment. It is the nurses’ obligation and responsibility to be an advocate for the patient. The nurse should always maintain a high level of code of ethics.
Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness, and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations. There are many advancement opportunities you have as a professional nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Nursing is a self-motivated and multifaceted discipline, one that requires skilled, knowledgeable, and self-sufficient practitioners. The roots of nursing are firmly based on service to other individuals, groups, and communities.
Nursing definition is, the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations (American Nursing Association). Becoming a nurse is much more than just giving a shot, or cleaning up after patients. All throughout history nursing has been a job that is always in perceived in the background. When you go into surgery you thank your doctor for saving your life, and for being able to do whatever procedure you needed. But the ones that are there for you throughout your stay are always the nurses. The one who cleans your wounds, the one that comes in every hour to make sure you’re heart rate and blood pressure are within normal range.
The nursing metaparadigm is essential when looking into the nursing theory. The nursing theory is composed of four parts, nursing, person, health, and environment. Each of these four parts are key when it comes down to patient care. The metaparadigm is the framework to nursing and it explains it in the simplest of aspects. Nursing and how the nurse cares for people. Person, or who it is that you are caring for. The health of the patient. Lastly the environment that the patient is in. The metaparadigm is only the basics of what nursing is about.
