My interest in nursing started unexpectedly when I became the main caregiver for my family. I had the responsibilities of helping my father who was diagnosed with cancer and raising my daughter as a single-teenaged parent. After pursuing my dreams and working several years as a nurse, I have been introduced to different aspects of nursing. I fell in love with the field of orthopedics because I was amazed at how orthopedic surgeons could remodel bones and help patients with serious injuries regain their strength and mobility. This inspired me to become an advanced practiced nurse in the field of orthopedics.
When I was in high school, I found out my father had prostate cancer. This was devastating news because my father was already raising three girls on his own. I was the youngest and the only child that resided at home. I also found out that year that I was going to be a mother. My role shifted from a daughter to a mother and caretaker of two people. Caring for my father became a way of life, because I had to educate myself about his diagnosis and strive to keep him as active and healthy as

I feel like it was what I was meant to do. It was something internal that just felt right and rewarding. From then on I knew I wanted to do the same in a career; to be the emotional support someone needs, providing care for the sick and recovering. The other aspect that attracted me to nursing is therapeutic communication and holistic nursing. It is an integral part in which nursing is based on. I have always believed that in order for an individual to heal from the outside; they must first heal from within, with a mind, body and soul connection. I practice yoga and meditation, which are key principals to this philosophy. If I am able to help patients to adapt, grow in positive ways, and heal in spite of their negative conditions, I am doing what I set out to be, as a caring and compassionate
Nursing has always been in my life since the day I was born… literally. My Aunt, a labor and delivery nurse, was the one who basically helped my mother deliver me. The fact that my Aunt was lucky enough to be the one that was there for people on those special days fascinated me. As long as could remember I knew I wanted to do that and be the one to help and comfort so many through their highs and lows.
For me nursing was not something that I initially intended to do as a career. During elementary school and into high school I contemplated many different career paths such as cosmetology, teaching, psychology, and forensics. It was not till the later years of high school that I started to notice my desire to help other individuals and love of science, health, and different disease processes. My desire to help people has originated from the admiration of my grandfather’s
I will never forget that day, the day I casually walked downstairs to find my parents sitting face to face at the kitchen table with both arms crossed and a serious look on their faces. I slowly walk towards my dad who is reaching out to give me a hug, looking at me with his sorrowful eyes, tells me that he will be moving out. At the time, I remember feeling confused, but I did not feel so emotionally affected because I was only just 5 years old. Being raised in a single parent household has been a challenge in my life and has impacted me through financial problems, social situations, and maturity.
Unluckily my mother had a stroke that has changed my life. All of her left side of her body was paralyzed. It took a very big toll on my family. At the time I was only 13 years old trying to fix my family back together.
Cancer. Six simple letters forming the most complex word a seven-year-old could ever comprehend. I couldn’t even spell it, let alone know what it meant. All I knew was that it was killing my father. I had lost my grandmother and both grandfathers by that time. Loss was something I had already grasped. My dad was dying and the one person in my family that I really needed, my brother, was off deployed across the world. It was incredibly difficult to not have him around during this time and everything was going downhill faster than the speed of sound.
My interest in nursing began when I was a young girl, being part of a dance group that traveled to nursing facilities throughout Pennsylvania to bring joy to the elder population. This experience introduced me to the healthcare field and developed my perception of both the caregiver and patient experiences. Also, contributing to my interest in the nursing field was caring for my terminally ill uncle, with my mother, until he passed. Originally, being only 9 years of age, this experience made me angry and confused, however, gave me motivation to find out more information such as what treatments we were taking him to, why they didn’t cure him, what was cancer, and how does it take a person’s life. Finally, I have always excelled and had a love for science and math, which has assisted me through achieving my dreams of becoming a registered nurse. These experiences developed a few main personal traits
I experienced illness when my Dad was diagnosed with cancer. The most devastating aspect of this experience was when we had to make a choice as a family on how we were going
My mother and I were there to support him. Within a month, my father was able to recover and overcome his drug addiction. Within that time, my parents decided to get back together. I was now able to live with the support of both my parents and feel like I had a family. I was really young during this experience, and thought that it would not be such a big impact on my life, but it was.
My calling to nursing started when my father got diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015. I watched him suffering through radiation and chemotherapy, but what got him through those hard times was the help of some great loving and caring nurses. As I became more involved in taking care of him, my passion for nursing had greatly increased. Now, for nine years, I have maintained a commitment to caring for others in the field of Nursing. Being a registered nurse (RN), I have taken care of one patient at a time, which I have been involved in the amelioration of lives, and have only been left wanting to give and do more. Pursuing a master of science in nursing (MSN) is more than just a logical or natural progression for my career. It is a life choice, one that is backed by highly refined clinical judgments and in-depth exposure to an array of set-ups, and levels of care. In this personal statement, I will deeper highlight an explanation of my career goals, the reasons for my choice of Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialization, and lastly the reason for pursuing an advanced degree in nursing.
The interest in nursing, for me, began when I was about the age of 14 and I would stay with my grandma during these days. While staying with her, I got to help her with taking her blood sugar, help remind her to take her insulin, and help her around the house. When I was doing this, I thought, “Wouldn’t it be fun to do this and help people as a job when I’m older?” but me being 14 years old, I didn’t really think anything of it until my junior year. During my sophomore year, the
Growing up in a family where many of the woman are nurses, made me want to live up to them, be as good as they are, push myself to go to college and reach for the stars. For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a nurse then go on for my nurse practitioners. From my mother, to my aunt, and even some of my cousins, I always wanted to be just like them and make a difference in others lives just like they have done for many years. Making a difference,
I am very proud to say that I have been working in caring profession for the last 10 years. Recently I have finished the assistant Practitioner (AP) Degree in Bedfordshire University with excellent grades.

Nursing has special commitments and expectations unlike any career. Nurses spend the most time with a patient amongst a team of care providers. Nurses play a major role in patient safety and care experience. Nurses need skills to evaluate a plan of care before administering medication. Communication is key in providing information and support to the patient along with their loved ones.
I think my main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from an innate desire to help people and care for them in times of need. I am also a person who thrives on being challenged and I always have new goals to achieve, so nursing suits me as few other careers offer as much diversity and learning
