As I am applying for this course as a mature student I have no doubt this career path will be a challenging one, both emotionally and physically. However, I have the full support and encouragement of my friends and family and if accepted I will continue to study until I reach the top of my field. I was accepted for an Adult Nursing Course prior to my surgery for epilepsy, I decided to wait until I had the procedure. While in London’s UCLH, it only reiterated my aspirations. The work of the nurses there was amazing, they also kept me calm and supported me when my family was not able to visit. They helped me a lot and I just want to do the same for others. My initial interest in this career began when I met my specialist nurse Mary Parrett as a teenager. She has inspired many people, including myself, as she always goes one step further for her patients. …show more content…
This has involved people suffering from various illnesses ranging from Alzheimer’s to Malaria. During a trip to Kenya, I worked in many clinics, schools and IDP camps. I helped particularly ill people but became disappointed that I could not do more. As neurology is my passion, I volunteered at an epilepsy clinic. I was shocked at the way individuals with neurological issues were treated. By passing on my experiences and familiarity in that area, I hope at least I did some good by letting them know that disabled people can lead a fulfilling and active life. Unfortunately my partner, who I met in Kenya, was involved in a potentially fatal car crash whilst there. He became paralysed from the neck down and required surgery. I cared for him, changing his catheter bags, dressings and administering pain relief. I had to teach him to walk again, encouraging him to go further every day until, over the next few months, his strength
I first became exposed to a hospital setting during my early ages of childhood due to my constant issues with my immune system. To my parents, I was commonly referred to as the sick child in the family since I would constantly catch even the simplest of illnesses such as fevers, colds, flus, running nose, severe coughs and much more. The time period, in which I would visit the doctor’s office, lead me to become more accustomed overtime to the environment and eventually grow a passion for what is being done.
During junior year, I participated in a program, lead2change, that provided opportunities for students to walk, live, and stand in their dream. It included professional internships, successful and dedicated speakers that are agents of change, and people who are already living in their dreams. I have been so blessed to take the opportunities that were provided by the program. I feel more confident in my ability to take on the role of Nurse Gordon. That I’m currently taking initiative to pursue some of my career dreams. I’m currently in a CNA program to get my foot in the healthcare field door, to take a look at the expectations that are demanded. As a result, I can be fully prepared to receive my LPN then to eventually reach my ultimate dream
As a child with PKU, I spent a lot of time with Physicians at Hershey Medical Center who specialized in this disorder and the nurses that would test my levels. It grew to become like a second home to me, along with the nurses becoming like family. As I got older my interest in helping people grew because of being around nurses all the time, I think it gave me the insight into what they do and how they played such an
My experiences have provided me with the ability to devote myself to the wellbeing of others and being able to adapt to many situations. In addition to these experiences, I am very dedicated to my goals and I know that becoming a nurse requires much commitment. Certainly, a career nursing will be challenging, but with clear set goals in mind, I know that I can achieve great things with great
“The journey to success they say requires persistence”; and many successful people learn from experience. To be involved in any profession one must first gain understanding and experience, the Word instructs us “... study to show thyself approved…” Working as a medical-Surgical Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), has given me the avenue to know more and inspired the desire to advance in the field of nursing. With this inspiration, I believe Nursing school will aide in the furtherance and I trust that i am prepared to take on the challenge head on.

My calling to nursing started when my father got diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015. I watched him suffering through radiation and chemotherapy, but what got him through those hard times was the help of some great loving and caring nurses. As I became more involved in taking care of him, my passion for nursing had greatly increased. Now, for nine years, I have maintained a commitment to caring for others in the field of Nursing. Being a registered nurse (RN), I have taken care of one patient at a time, which I have been involved in the amelioration of lives, and have only been left wanting to give and do more. Pursuing a master of science in nursing (MSN) is more than just a logical or natural progression for my career. It is a life choice, one that is backed by highly refined clinical judgments and in-depth exposure to an array of set-ups, and levels of care. In this personal statement, I will deeper highlight an explanation of my career goals, the reasons for my choice of Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialization, and lastly the reason for pursuing an advanced degree in nursing.
I am a survivor; I want to be a savior. My interest in biology originated from my experience as a child when I was living in India. I was misdiagnosed with malaria. The prescribed medication worsened my health as I exhibited severe dehydration and sickness.
My Mission is to build and lead a visionary team where everyone is using their strength to maintain a beautiful nursing home. I will do everything within my authority to promote teamwork; working together with respect and appreciation for each other. I will focus on improving the quality of care by being creative and innovative in developing effective solutions. I am dedicated to clinical excellence and a safe working place for staff, and above all creating and maintaining a nursing home where resident and family members can have no regret calling home.
I intend to utilize my education along with my talents toward the advancement for an improved society in regard to the younger generations by establishing additional scholarship funds, considering that I personally know what it is like to depend on financial aid, and encouraging volunteer or contract opportunities where students can partner with businesses, hospitals, organizations, etc., which guarantee them funds if they work for their branch for a certain amount of years; as a result, the student is guaranteed employment as well as money. Also, acknowledging the problems affiliated with the health insurance; therefore, I would voice my professional experience to my healthcare management or any large healthcare corporation. To clarify, since
Learning how small changes in the functional group of chemicals and the subsequent effect on its biological interactions, and how this knowledge is applied into practice, has always fascinated me. The constant medical advancements in testing, techniques, and technologies, such as the adaptability of 3D printing, ensures a life of continuous learning, as we continue to pursue the best possible patient-centred care. Attending talks by leading professors, being a member of my school’s Biology Society, widens by knowledge and perspective of science. As a result of my passion for science and teaching others, I also volunteered for a daylong Biology event where I led an interactive mini-stall about the different functions of the brain for kids under
When I was a kid, I possessed a tendency to tinker with my broken devices. I questioned how they worked and interested on why they didn’t. I would invest time and resources to troubleshoot, investigate, and test ways to restore my possessions back to their former function. There is a certain joy in using one’s knowledge to ……. Within an anatomy course in high school, I saw the human body featured as another machine.
I graduated college in May of 2016, and subsequently began a post-baccalaureate fellowship at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Cardiac Physiology Lab of Dr. Elizabeth Murphy. In this position, I have been investigating the metabolic effects of ischemia/reperfusion on mouse embryonic fibroblast via calcium uptake assays and analyzing cell viability under ischemic conditions. In addition, I recently joined the Laboratory of Early Sickle Mortality Prevention of Dr. Courtney Fitzhugh, a clinical laboratory, where I have the unique opportunity to work with patients that have sickle cell disease. The aim of our current clinical protocol is to establish an algorithm that will
My love for learning new things has grown exponentially since S1 but Chemistry and Biology were the subjects that attracted me the most. Through them, I developed an interest in one of the most complex structures known to man: the human body. This is what drove me to choose a career in medicine. It was not an easy decision at first but, after exploring the subject in greater depth, it is the one that I now stand behind whole-heartedly.
