Healthy child development is dependent on many factors, one of which is nurturing care. Nurturing care has seven components according to Alderman & Fernald, 2017, the components are protection from harm, stable home environment, access to good nutrition, responsive caregiving, quality health care provided, stimulating/enriching environment, and opportunity for play and exploration. By focusing on nurturing care is to support the brain’s response to early experiences in early childhood that will benefit “acquisition of languages, cognitive skills, and socio-emotional competencies” (Britto et al., 2017).
In addition, supportive nurturing in early childhood development (ECD) can have lifelong benefits such as better learning capacity, greater opportunities for achievements, more involvement in community affairs and becoming a productive member of society. Nurturing care also diminishes the adverse effect of being in lower socioeconomic status on brain development (Black et al., 2017).

Using a systems model, ECD can be split into personal resources and structural resources. Both are integral to the positive development in early childhood by providing an enabling environment. For personal resources, these include caregiver (E.g. maternal health and education), family and community (E.g. safety, sanitation, and absence of stigma), while structural resources are the social, economic, political, climatic, and cultural aspects. The structural forces of laws, policies, financial stability, supportive organizations as well as conflict originators such as war, environmental disasters, and cultural changes can all influence

All children are teachable and all moments are teachable moments. Much of the brain’s significant development occurs in utero which makes prenatal and maternal health services vital to children. The brain develops best in the context of loving relationships, play, opportunities to explore their world, and engaging things to learn about. It takes more than just the education system to improve the learning experience of children, early childhood care is crucial for successful learning experiences. It takes a collaborative effort between the many adults in a child’s life. Environments need to be safe, peaceful, and happy in order for the children to learn and develop to their fullest potential. The impact early educators have on the children and their families can equip them for success. Genuine relationships between early educators and families build trust and respect, this trusting relationship among parents and staff members is key to an effective experience. As caregivers and educators, we must continue to update, revise, and expand our teaching and care practices to best meet the needs of our diverse
When babies and young children feel valued, secure and trust the people around them, they are more likely to thrive and achieve their developmental goals. Certain areas of development are linked to the strength of attachment that children have with those around them, especially emotional and language development. We also know that children learn from those they have a strong bond with and so cognitive development can also be linked to strong relationships. This is of course equally true with their primary carer, for example their parents, as well as with their key person in their setting.
Early childhood is one of the most critical developmental periods in a human’s lifespan. The child transitions from infancy and begins the essential changes needed before the next developmental period begins, middle childhood which begins at six years of age. Development refers to “the orderly patterns of change, as well as continuities that occur in an individual through their life span” (text, p3). Human development is determined by both genes and environmental influences or nature and nurture. Nature refers to heredity which is the passing of traits from parents to their children and maturation which is the changes biologically programmed by genes (text, p7). Nurture refers to the changes that occur due to the individual’s environment

A significant element in a child’s life is a relationship with their parent and central to this is the aspect of infant-mother bond (Cook, 1999). Parents play a critical role in modeling the adult lives of their children. A research on early brain development revealed that early intervention of warm and receptive care given to children is critical for their growth. It is vital to encourage and offer optimum care for the young children. The way a child is nurtured is a factor in their early brain development. Positive nurturing care and love towards children in their infanthood up to around 6 years results in a positive brain growth (Tribble, 2012). With both parents working, adverse effects on child development may be experienced. Children
The environment that a child is exposed to is very influential, as a high-quality living environment has been positively linked to cognitive development (Guo & Harris, 2000). Therefore those children living in poverty are at a further disadvantage due to their low-quality living environment.
In an October study, scientists found that children who had less nurturing had less growth in areas with grey and white matter. The child also had less development in the areas of the brain used for dealing with stress and learning. Scientists also made the correlation that parents in tough financial situations seemed to nurture their child less.
Is child care having a negative effect on the development of children in the United States? Studies show that there are indeed negative psychological and developmental effects on children. Scientists in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom are coming to the same conclusion. It is best for a child to be cared for at home.
Life is completely full of emotions that we don’t have time to address. There are often times the past comes back to haunt us, this holds true when our stress levels are super high. High stress levels make us more susceptible to feeling inadequate, insecure and easily angered. If you are not taking the time necessary to nurture yourself while raising kids, ultimately the kids pay for it. This is not what one envisions parenthood to be about, our kids paying for the stress we haven’t taken time to reduce. Today we want to share a few ways to learn how to nurture yourself while raising kids. Just a hint, this won’t take away from your kids, it will actually allow your relationship with them to thrive!
To nurture healthy brain development it is important that the child be in a constructive nurturing environment when away from the primary caregiver. This environment should be social, healthy, interactive, and nurturing.
There are multiple factors in a child’s development. Parents have a responsibility, as well as a privilege, to contribute to every milestone. Most parents stress over physical and mental stages so much so that play-time is ignored. By making decisions that sacrifice play parents hinder their social development. Parents must take action and encourage their youth to play more, before childhood is lost forever.
Child development is the foundation upon which early childhood practice is based. Because the psychomotor, socioemotional, cognitive, and linguistic developmental domains are inter-related, early childhood professionals in all types of programs (e.g., family child care homes, early childhood education centers) must comprehend both the processes of development and the adult’s role in supporting each child’s growth, development, and learning. This semester in Child Development has helped me a great deal. I came into this class wanting to be a Child Development teacher at the high school level. I am leaving this class with the same ambition to become a Child Development teacher. I have learned so much by taking this class and I know it will all be helpful in the future once I am standing at the front of a classroom. Also, just by watching the way Mary teaches the class, I have learned things that I want to take into my own style of teaching.
Early childhood education has not always been the top priority in the education world. Although, research has proved that it should be the top priority as the benefits of Early Childhood Education are innumerous. Extensive neuroscience research has discovered that the brain is build over time and it is built from the bottom up. Early childhood experiences directly affect the quality brain development. Establishing a sturdy foundation through a high quality early childhood education experience, will dramatically develop child's brain. As a result, they will have a brighter future. In this essay, I will propose a plan for the children of 2020 and how to ensure the best early childhood education experience. I personally believe that racially, culturally, linguistically and developmentally responsive practices parental involvement are critical to the sturdy foundation that is essential to the positive early childhood experience.
