“Gift of the Magi” by sesame street and “Gift of the Magi” by O.Henry have a variety of similarities and differences. In both sesame streets version and O.Henrys version, the partners trade something special that belongs to themselves, in order to get a great gift for their partner. Another similarity is in both stories the gifts that each partner receives has no use to them. For example, when Ernie receives a cigar box for his paper clip collection, it has no use since Ernie traded his paperclip collection in to afford Bert's gift. A difference between the stories is at the end Mr. Hooper realizes what is happening and decides to give Bert and Ernie's Paperclips and rubber ducky back. In the version by O. In "The gift of the Magi" and "Bert and Ernie's Christmas", both show various similarities and differences. The first similarity was they both were short on money and on time, causing them to trade their treasured possessions for money in order to buy a gift for their loved one. One difference in " The gift of the Magi" there status was husband and wife, while in "Bert and Ernie's Christmas" they were just friends. Despite their different relationship status, in both stories they gave up their prized possessions for each other, not knowing they needed their belongings in order for them to properly use the gifts they had received. As an example in "The gift of the Magi" the wife, Della, sacrificed her hair to buy her husband a
The story was written by O’Henry in 1906. The story was centered around a seemingly poor couple who did not have enough money to buy each other the gifts that their significant other deserved. The story took place during Christmas. The Gift of the Magi is like a classic wisdom story in the bible. O’Henrys choice of title depicts symbolism between the three magi that brought gold, frankincense, and mur, to the baby Jesus and the gifts that Jim and Della had given to each other which mainly consisted of selfless love, Della’s hair and Jims pocket watch. This itself ties into the theme of his story. These gifts all entail the act
The Scarlet Ibis and The Gift of the Magi Dennis Buchler In the two short stories, The Scarlet Ibis and The Gift of the Magi, the characters showed love for one another. However, there are some differences. Some of the differences include, Della was a giving lady while Doodle’s brother was selfish and only cared about himself at times. His brother unintentionally killed doodle or you could say the narrator, while Della and Jim learn what is really important.
These two stories had a great deal of differences, yet they are surprisingly the same in innumerable ways. For example, both of the boys in the stories were involved in some kind of hunting. In the story “The Christmas Hunt” a boy, named Tom, wanted to go on the Christmas hunt with his father so badly that Tom decided that it would be a great idea to go hunting without his father with no experience and his father's finest hunting
In The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry (1906), Della is one of two main characters, the other being her beloved husband, Jim. On Christmas Eve, Della has saved very little for a present for Jim when she decides to sell her most prized possession, her long beautiful hair, for more money. After doing this, and buying the perfect gift,
The Magi story and the Sesame street video are similar and different in a variety of different ways. Something the video and the story have in common is that all of the characters are poor, and cannot afford a Christmas present for one another. While comparing both the video and story, we can see that all of the characters care about each other so much, they are willing to trade their most prized possessions to put a smile on the other person's face. When contrasting the video and the story, you can see that the setting and characters from the video are from sesame street, while the couple in the Magi story are very much human and it is taken place in an older time. A distinction between the video and the story might be what their prized possessions
In conclusion, you must think of others too. Henry defied his parents to be with Keiko, which resulted in a strained relationship with his father until he learns the truth of what he did to his letters. Henry’s stubborn and quick actions gets him into trouble, but he makes up for these by taking responsibility and learning how to take others into consideration. Sometimes letting go is the only choice, because your life will move on, and you cannot be stuck to one chapter in your life forever. The choice you make to sacrifice what you have for the happiness of others shows how mature you are and how you are ready to cross the road to adulthood.
The story, a Retrieved Reformation, by Henry, narrates of Jimmy Valentine, a burglar who has just been released from prison. He goes on a burglary spree then retreats to Elmore, Arkansas and opens a shoe store with his loot. He creates the alias Ralph D. Spencer and goes by that name from then. He meets a lady, Annabel Adams, who he falls in love with and gives up his criminal ways.
Both stories involve a risk of some kind. For example, in Rappaccini`s daughter, Giovanni risked giving her the antidote to save her, but it failed, and nature claimed her life. On the other hand, Ralph was magnanimous in saving Alice, his wife, from Death and Nature. The two stories relate in theme, and objective of their respective protagonists. All in all, the stories are similar and comparable in many ways, but have slight
The comparison O. Henry makes between the story of Jim and Della and that of the Magi is rather relevant as the Magi were the ones who are credited with being the origins of the “giving nature” of the Christmas season. In this story, we see a man and a woman so blinded by love that they are willing to make ultimate sacrifices for the happiness of the other. Similar to the Magi, Della and Tim put each other before themselves and through their generosity and considerable lengths they both went to achieve that generosity is something more admirable than any materialistic gift they could ever offer each other, thus making the uselessness of their gifts irrelevant.
How the stories can be in theses two forms. Some similarities that can be identified by the stories are. M.MME Loisel and Frances. From The Necklace and Della and Jim from The Gift Of The Magi That they are both married and poor. Some ways to show t5hat are by.(One dollar and eighty-seven cents.
Stories of love and sacrifice abound in literature. Perhaps one of the most well known stories among teens and adults is the tale of a poor, young couple struggling to find the perfect Christmas gifts for each other using their very limited means. They each manage to get what they think is the perfect gift for the other, but only accomplish this by selling a prized possession which effectively makes the new gifts impractical. This bittersweet narrative, “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry, illustrates the moral idea that a person, motivated by nothing but love for another, can possess a willingness to give in a self-denying way which necessitates that the reader consider that wealth be measured by something more than having money
In the story it says, “‘Dell,’ said he, ‘let’s put our Christmas presents away and keep ‘em a while.’” The Christmas presents they got each other symbolize the love they have for each other. Another example in the story is, “And here I have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house.” Giving away their most prized possessions and self worth just to give the other a worthy Christmas gift symbolizes the absolute love they have for each other. In this case, O. Henry uses simple objects, combs and a chain, to symbolize the unending love Della and Jim have for each
Selfless according to the Oxford English Dictionary means, “concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own.” In today’s world it is very uncommon to find people that are completely unselfish. In the story The Gift of the Magi there is a couple who are both exceedingly concerned about the other rather than themselves. I admire this trait and I feel that it is more suitable to be unselfish in a relationship since it shows the other how much one cares and it helps form a valuable relationship between two individuals.
Author Henry uses imagery in the short story “The Gift of Magi” to describe how valuable Jim and Della’s most prized possessions were. Jim and his wife, Della, both have very little money to buy each other a gift for christmas the next day. They end up selling their most prized possessions to make each other happy. In the beginning of the short story Della was very upset because she had realized she only has one dollar and eighty seven cents to buy Jim a gift, “Della finished her crying and cleaned the marks of it from her face” (Henry 2). This demonstrates imagery because it shows the readers that Della actually cares about getting Jim a gift. If she didn’t care than she wouldn’t have cried. Since Della was so
