Prompt Number Two Being a member of theatre has caused me to grow as an individual in ways I am still beginning to understand. I believe theatre has molded me into a much more personable and tolerant person, and it has most definitely given me a high confidence level. Theatre has helped me develop my sense of self, as I’ve become highly aware of how I am perceived by others. I plan on integrating these skills into my daily life as I pursue my career in theatre education. The ability to connect to my students is vital in helping them grow as theatre has made me, and I believe the social skills I’ve acquired though theatre will aid me in doing just that.
The tolerance I’ve built in this department has prepared
Over the past year, I have completely fallen in love with my new home here at Western Carolina University. I am so proud to be a part of such an incredible community with amazing staff and students. Next year, I will be continuing my studies at Western, taking courses for my chosen major: nutrition and dietetics.
I have been a part of JROTC for the past four years of my high school career. During my time in the program, I gained more self-confidence and was able to venture out of my comfort zone, which allowed me to join numerous clubs and organizations throughout my high school career. The clubs include the Chess Club for one year, the Environmental Club and AFJROTC Honor Guard team for two years, and Science Olympiad all my four years of high school. The organizations include the National Technical Honor Society for two years and National Honor Society for two years as well and voted Vice President.
I am interested in the LSDP Scholarship. I feel even though I have had leadership experiences in the past, this winter term program could take me that extra mile to becoming the best leader I can be. I served the last two years of my high school career as the FFA Reporter for my FFA chapter office. I also have some experience as a co-producer for my Thespian Society Chapter my junior year of high school. I was part of the National Honor Society and even though I didn’t hold a position it was expected of me to set a good example for other students by volunteering during and outside of school. Senior year I aided my biology teacher during one of her class periods. I helped her with class plans and grading to prepare her for her maternity leave. All these divergent positions allowed me to experience leadership in a different way and I feel that LSDP can help me pull them all together to become a better leader.
Not only am I good student overall, but I am a very busy-bodied student who likes to get involved and that's why I think I should be granted this scholarship. I receive good grades in school and participate in a few extracurricular activities such as HOSA, which I am the president of by the way, and the National Honor Society.I'm the president of my school's HOSA Club at my school and a Chic Time Member outside of school. I’ve been in HOSA since my freshman year, which reminds me that I’m also in the Medical Program at Andrew Jackson. Freshman year I was apart of Andrew Jackson’s band, playing the flute and a part of Andrew Jackson’s newspaper. In my Freshman year I was awarded Student of the Month for August/September under the Health Science School, A/B Honor Roll
Anderson Theatre has truly shaped me into the mature young adult I am today. My freshman year, I decided to join theatre not knowing what to expect. None of my friends were in theatre, and it was something I decided to do completely on my own. I walked into the first meeting, late because I had cheer practice, and sat in the back of the Fine Arts Room by myself. I then let cheerleading take over all of my time, and did not return to theatre until Dry Tech. That day, I walked in and started working. In that 12 hour day, I realized that doing hair and makeup is something I am really great at. In that 12 hour day, I met dozens of people with whom I am still friends with today. Because of Anderson Theatre, I met my best friend. I laughed more than
My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.
Like most young boys I grew up idolizing sport heroes, racing kids on the playground, and playing sports outside. My teams were the Cowboys, the Astros, and later on in life the Aggies. Consequentially, if you didn’t love Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio than I didn’t really like you. Although most of these decisions were made based upon my brother’s sport interest, I learned to love them in my own way. After all, my brother was the one who I played basketball with, threw the football and baseball with, and eventually the one who inspired my love for A&M and the Aggies. For all my life I can remember wanting to play sports and wanting to watch sports, but around 7th grade when my brother moved off to A&M is when I really started getting the sports bug. Visiting for home games, standing in the
I intend to use this scholarship to help pay for my tuition and books at the Southern Arizona University of Phoenix- Online. I would like to be considered for this scholarship because I have no financial help from my family. This means that I have to be able to pay for college on my own because of the fact that my father is no longer in my life, and my mom has my other siblings to take care of. My father is no longer in my life because he now lives in Mexico with his other family. I don’t have financial help from him because he has a wife and six other children. My mother would like to be able to help me, but she has two other children she’s taking care of by herself, and she has to prepare for my sister's graduation next year as well as mine this year. I plan to get a job after I graduate to help pay for the expenses of college, but since I am going online the expenses of college are going to be a lot less than if I were to go on campus, this is the main reason I am planning to go online, and to take a lot of the stress of being totally alone off myself because I will only be twenty minutes away from my family instead of an hour or two.
I have been a nurse for 34 years and have enjoyed my experiences beyond belief, however there comes a time in anyone's life where you have to make the decision on whether to stay stagnant or broaden your horizons. I choose to broaden my horizons and put the many hours of education that I have accumulated into good use. I do get excited about learning and have always enjoyed going to school so this is a dream come true for me to finally get my associate degree. Travel with me as I take the journey to decipher all the events, influences, and obstacles that have aided in my educational decisions. If there was any event that sparked me to come to CCU it was the fact that I see men and women, way younger than me, become leaders over our clinics,
Continuing with my graduate studies at UNO would be vital to my continual growth and developmental, in both the academic and professional realms. Having done my Undergraduate studies at UNO was an eye opening and extremely beneficial opportunity which I will be eternally grateful for having and something that I would love to continue with my Graduate studies within the university. Completing my Bachelors of Arts at UNO granted me the opportunity to work with amazing professors who helped shape me into who I am today and granted me the opportunity to expand my knowledge further than the classroom with helping me to conduct my own research. I was able to conduct two research projects focusing on the issues the Hispanic population face, both of which have been presented at the Midwest Sociological Society’s Annual Meetings. My hope is
When I think of Illinois State University, I think of the endless amount of possibilities and outcomes for my future. Not only is it a dream of mine to attend, but I feel as if it could have such an immense impact on the overall direction and quality of my future. Financial hardship has been an ongoing struggle for my family ever since I was younger, therefore it has always been my main goal to break the continuance of that cycle. Attending Illinois State would allow me to be the first in my family to obtain a degree and build a better future for myself as well as my family. My mother has had such a tremendous impact on who I am now, as she has always done her best to encourage and support me wherever my dreams may take me, hence why I’ve gathered the courage to apply.
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
Theater sheds light on conflicts and realities of life. “O,O, O, they will all come, all come out clearly! Light of the sun, let me look up on you no more after today! I who first saw the light bred of a match accursed, and accursed in my living with them I lived with, cursed in my killing”(Oedipus 723). Theatre serves as an outlet and creates an understanding that makes a person to reflect and cross-examine his or her life.
When the rest of the world is becoming consumed by technology and constant interruptions, theatre has the ability to connect a group of strangers by having them watch completely real moments of life, or some form of it. Even if the play is not like real life at all, it is more really than anything we call connection that happens through a screen. This is one reason I believe theatre will always fit into our society is because people have a need for connection, which is becoming less common through our use of technology. I hope theatre will always be able to help push connection in our society.
Firstly, students participating in theater gain experiences for later careers. For example, someone who understands an audition would know what to expect in a job or college interview. Assisting in a performance, even on the technical side, can also improve the ability to withstand stress and being put in a position under pressure (Mintz). This also expands one’s capacity for thinking and knowledge about the performing arts and gives students a greater appreciation for the arts. They gain new abilities and endure more of the hardships in their lives. Problem solving is a definite trait gained for the teamwork and leadership roles many must take on in productions. This prepares them for their career and the hardships and pressure they must endure. Some people even view the performing arts as transcendent experience, giving them a new way to look at life as a whole, making it a spiritual experience.
