OPTION C: CHILD CARE
If you were considering leaving your three year-old child in a child care facility (family day care or child care center), what would be your major concerns? Why? Would your concerns be different, if your child were an infant? Explain. Would you prefer an academic or a child-centered preschool for your child? Why?
Answer
Throughout time, raising children has never been a walk in the park, even with the knowledge we have today on proper child rearing and development, there are still challenges. One of those problems are making sure children are properly raised even amidst challenges of both parents working, or even single parent care. When put in those situations, parents tend to look outside the home for help in many forms, including family daycare, or other child care facilities. The choice to do place their child in those facility includes many questions in order to make sure their child is getting the best care possible. The questions might include your major concerns about the facility, if the age of your child makes a difference, or even if the best option is in an academic or child-centered preschool. The first concern would be if my child would receive “personal attention, consistency, and continuity” (Berger, 2014, pg. 198) during their time at the day care. Next I would want to know from others who have their child enrolled their thoughts and feelings on the center, to know if this facility was safe and dependable for my child. Lastly, I would want to know what the facility prizes in their goals, methods, and skills gained (Berger, 2014, pg. 194) to make sure I want that facility teaching my child. Once I know the answer to all of those concerns, I will better prepared to place my toddler in a child care
