United States' will. No one celebrated Obama's absence as his is viewed as an important key in bringing balance into Asia. Obama has done far more and planned for more than his predecessors ever have. After having missed the Asian Summit Obama set aside an entire week for a make up trip that took him to South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines. This make up tour unfortunately came off as lackluster and poorly put together, not because of any lack of intention or efforts but because of geopolitical priorities. Thailand like most countries does have its share of naysayers that are far more critical of Obama, and while most of Thailand interpreted Obama's actions well these individuals have a far more dismal view of Obama's policies. …show more content…

The article summarizes opinions in America over the Pivot to Asia. The United States remains committed to its pivot to Asia. Former national security adviser to President Obama, General Jim Jones told a Washington think tank that the phrase Pivot to Asia are probably “the words we regret most”. While it is no secret that Asia's influence in global politics were rising this phrase makes it seem that traditional European allies are no long as important to America. This has caused much unrest from our European friends. Since then the Obama Administration has attempted to re-characterize the as a re-balancing instead of a pivot. State Department acting deputy spokesman Patrick Ventrell told journalists that “ you know the administration's strong commitment to the Asia-Pacific region, Its driven by out enduring interests and it won't change...As President Obama said, we will deepen out engagement in the region in order to seize opportunities for a more secure prosperous future”3. The new secretary of State John Kerry traveled to Europe for his first overseas trip since taking up his post unlike his predecessor Hillary Clinton, his first stops being in London, Berlin and Paris. This article gives validity to the doubts of the Obama Administration in believing that America remains Atlantic centric. This seems to suggest that America regrets pivoting to Asia at the offense of our European Allies, mixed with our focus on Russian affairs and Israeli-Palestinian peace it seems that our focus is drifting away from Asia.
