United States' will. No one celebrated Obama's absence as his is viewed as an important key in bringing balance into Asia. Obama has done far more and planned for more than his predecessors ever have. After having missed the Asian Summit Obama set aside an entire week for a make up trip that took him to South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines. This make up tour unfortunately came off as lackluster and poorly put together, not because of any lack of intention or efforts but because of geopolitical priorities. Thailand like most countries does have its share of naysayers that are far more critical of Obama, and while most of Thailand interpreted Obama's actions well these individuals have a far more dismal view of Obama's policies. …show more content…
The article summarizes opinions in America over the Pivot to Asia. The United States remains committed to its pivot to Asia. Former national security adviser to President Obama, General Jim Jones told a Washington think tank that the phrase Pivot to Asia are probably “the words we regret most”. While it is no secret that Asia's influence in global politics were rising this phrase makes it seem that traditional European allies are no long as important to America. This has caused much unrest from our European friends. Since then the Obama Administration has attempted to re-characterize the as a re-balancing instead of a pivot. State Department acting deputy spokesman Patrick Ventrell told journalists that “ you know the administration's strong commitment to the Asia-Pacific region, Its driven by out enduring interests and it won't change...As President Obama said, we will deepen out engagement in the region in order to seize opportunities for a more secure prosperous future”3. The new secretary of State John Kerry traveled to Europe for his first overseas trip since taking up his post unlike his predecessor Hillary Clinton, his first stops being in London, Berlin and Paris. This article gives validity to the doubts of the Obama Administration in believing that America remains Atlantic centric. This seems to suggest that America regrets pivoting to Asia at the offense of our European Allies, mixed with our focus on Russian affairs and Israeli-Palestinian peace it seems that our focus is drifting away from Asia. In this entire article none of the American officials address partnerships or even visits with Asian
Barack Obama has impacted America in many ways since he was elected the 44th president on November 4th, 2008. The first African American president of the United States has taken the world by storm and done many great things for this country. Barack Obama has accomplished many things in his personal life, and also as the president of the United States. Obama has affected the world financially, economically, and rebuilt our image as a nation.
There is every sign that Barack Obama is placing the bleak economic situation at the top of his agenda, despite a number of problematic foreign policy challenges being in his in-tray when he arrived at the White House. Indeed, it would appear that on some key issues such as human rights abuses in China, the new US President is subordinating previously stated policy priorities in favor of forging stronger relations with foreign powers.
President Obama came into office in the aftermath of the disastrous foreign policy record of the Bush administration. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 had served as a “switchman,” leading to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Bush administration exercised unilateral use of force and reluctance to engage the international community. As a result global elites and publics viewed the US unfavorably. The US economy was negatively affected by the costs of the wars coupled with the financial crisis of 2007. It was this environment that defined the contours of the election campaign of 2008. Obama campaigned on the idea of change, which represented a regeneration of America through domestic public policy reform and a return to multilateralism in foreign policy. Both domestic and international publics and elites were galvanized by Obama’s message.
When Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States in 2009, people expected change and for him to be successful in his role. This was backed by the highest popular vote in over 20 years and having the largest democratic win since Lyndon Johnson in 1963 (p793.(2010).Jacobs,LR., King,DS.) During his first few months in office he had 60% approval ratings, and was able to push for certain policies due to the strong Democrat Congress. However after his first 5 years in office his approval ratings fell, and his formerly Democratic Congress has weakened over the last two congressional elections with the Republican numbers in Congress rising to their highest majority since 1949((2014)infoplease).
I remember when President Obama was first elected while I was in the 5th grade and many do not truly understand how he has positively impacted Americans in many different way. He is essentially the first president that I grew up with while understanding American Politics. He grew as a role model to many minorities who have long believed that there would never be an African American President. He brought hope, change, and prosperity to a country that was nearing a recession when he attained the presidency. Many have repetitively treated President Obama with contempt, racism disrespect by questioning his citizenship, faith, and love for the great country. 8 1/2 months into his first term President Obama was delivering a nationally televised
As an area studied by humans about humans, there are realms of the human psyche not yet deciphered by political theorists, but can be explained by various sociological phenomena. Most significantly, the indiscretion of the human condition most easily manipulated is that of the perception of capable authority. The candidate that wins any presidential election is the one that the majority of voters could identify with and trust, deduced from the advertisement of the individual’s values. This inclination is identified during election time, and so emerges the mass phenomenon of charismatic authority. Max Weber outlined charismatic authority as "resting on devotion to the exceptional sanctity, heroism, or exemplary character of an individual person,
Barrack Obama’s tenure as President of the United States is coming to a close and voters should understand how to gather reliable information on new candidates, such as Jeb Bush. Even though paying attention to all four major types of media platforms; digital, legacy, a candidates’ own media, and social media, creates a sound informative opinion on Republican Presidential hopeful Jeb Bush, digital media provides voters with the most holistic view. The benefits of digital media, throughout the week of September 15th through the 22nd, created an opportunity to construct a different point of view on Bush and what he stands for.
This advertisement broadcast by the Pennsylvania Republican Party in 2008 paints Obama as an enabler to terrorism. The viewer sees fake Polaroids of prior Presidents meeting with leaders such as Adolf Hitler, Fidel Castro, and Osama Bin Laden with the disclaimer that the pictures never actually took place. The narrator explains that you never saw those photos, because an American president pictured with leaders of countries that support terror would embolden them, and make America more vulnerable. The narrator blames Obama’s naiveté for his declaration that if elected he would break this tradition and meet with the leaders of terrorist countries without any pre-conditions at all. The narrator dramatizes the cause and effect of this and blames
Power is the ability and way of directing and influencing the behavior of others or the course of events. Due to the fact that Obama is the current President of The United States he has a huge ability of directing or influencing events and others. Lets just say those who like Obama agree with what he has to say. Obama has power of the citizens living in America. He clearly has knowledge, the first component that Toffler identifies as power. Obama clearly has knowledge of what our country needs to be focusing on. In the interview with a CNN reporter Obama states, “One of the most frustrating things that I hear is when people say -- who are opposed to any further laws -- 'Why don't you just enforce the laws that are on the books?'" The law that
President Barack Obama is regarded as one of the most successful US Presidents in history. He has made countless effective and positive changes and improvements to the United States. He has changed the lives and reduced violence and intolerance towards people of different races, sexuality and gender as well as improving America’s overall image. Throughout the history of the United States, we have had presidents from all walks of life. Some good, some not. All have left behind a legacy. Some were more memorable then others, and some just down right horrendous. Barack Obama has been the United States President for the last seven years. He has spent almost 2 terms in office passing bills, creating new policies, and bettering the lives of Americans. While not everybody loves him, it would be a hard to argue that he hasn't gotten a lot done while he's been in office. For example, he has started the process of creating affordable health care that is accessibly available to all Americans. He has helped restore the economy after one of the biggest recessions the U.S. Has ever seen. He has
Finally,Obama was influenced, not by another person, but by his mother and stepfather,Lolo Soetoro. Obama was raised in a multicultural household. Miller Center states that Obama was raised as “Indonesian child and a Hawaiian child and as a black child and as a white child,” which furthered his experience with different cultures as well as opened his mind to how others live their lives.

People were jumping excitedly around, pumping their fists as they chanted USA. Blue party streamers flew in the air as his supporters flooded the streets cheering. Millions were sitting on the edge of their couches as Wolf Blitz announces the predicted President Elect in 2008: Barack Obama. After an 8 year Republican-led presidency riddled with turmoil and heartbreaks, the people breathe a sigh of relief as they ready themselves to write the next chapter of their country’s history. The way in which power is obtained and maintained differs greatly depending on the country. In our democratic America, political power can only be obtained and maintained through a perfect balance of pleasing both the general public and special interest groups, due to the fact that they both influence the decisions of political figures in separate ways. While Obama may have come into power through the support of Americans in 2008, it would be an uphill battle to maintain his power in an increasingly divisive country controlled by extreme special interest groups.
There are lots of different thoughts that go through people’s heads when we bring up the president, in this paper, we are going to discuss who he is and other political leaders.
