Obesity is a condition where persons have accumulated so much body fat that it might have a negative effect on their health. Obesity is a serious, chronic disease that can have negative effects on many systems of the body. Obesity increases the risk of developing a range of serious diseases and are associated with the development of many long term conditions. Obesity is a result associated with psychological problems, health problems and social care. Obesity usually results in psychological problems. In a culture where many people desire their physical attractiveness is more likely to be slim and not being obese. Individuals who are obese often suffer disadvantages. Obesity is linked to a wide range of diseases, most notably diabetes (type two), heart disease and stroke. Diabetes is a disease in which the body’s sugar level is too high. As researched stated “overtime, high blood sugar levels damage nerves and blood vessels leading to complications such as heart disease and stroke, the leading causes of death among people with disease”. Stunkard, A. J (1980), p. 46. Also deriving from obesity is social care. According to the health care Bill describes social care as, “all forms of personal care and other practical assistance for individuals who by reason of age, illness, disability or any other similar circumstances are in need of such care or assistance”. There is an important link between obesity and social care. Obesity contributes to the development of long term conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, resulting in physical and social difficulties which impact on social care. Obesity is associated with a number of long term conditions which place significant burden on individuals. The growing issue of obesity can be slowed down, if society focuses on the effects of obesity. Concentrating on psychological problems, health problems and social care, overtime, obesity can be decreased and lead to a healthier
