I agree with Daniel Weintraub that it is the children’s parents faults for obesity in America. I had many discussions after reading Weintraub’s article and I will help prove his point. I will show how it is one tiny mistake that can mess up our entire lives. Responsibility is the big key we need to learn in order for us to be healthy. We also need to work on our health issues and how we need to exercise daily. If we eat right and exercise daily we can become very healthy people.
The first reason I think it is the parents fault is because our parents have the responsibility of taking care of us. They are the ones who feed us what we eat and they also have the power to make us go outside and exercise. If they feed us healthier food it would be better than junk food everyday, instead parents are feeding their children something that they know if affordable but they do not know that it is

Since there is lack of consistent physical education, all the food we consume becomes excess weight that we do not need to be carrying around. Like I have said before, we need at least half an hour of exercise. You may think that it is too much exercise but that is the least amount of time that we need. Children who consume more should exercise more. It is a food to exercise ratio that we need to use.
People may say that it is the fast food companies that are to blame for obesity, but I do not think it is. Yes they sell unhealthy food to us but it is our faults for consuming it. They only cause us to become overweight because we let them too. If we do not eat the food they put out in front of us we will not get fat. If we do eat it, we must exercise to burn it off. If we do not then that is the reason we are fat. It is common sense that if you eat something and it gets you fat then you should probably stop consuming it or do something to get rid of that
America is experiencing an increasing problem with obesity that arose from numerous factors such as sugary processed foods, larger portion sizes, and lack of physical activity that lead to detrimental results like preventable diseases that lead to death. In order to stop this rising epidemic, it will take national effort to educate the public and to offer fetter food alternatives in schools and in grocery stores.
In America almost two thirds of the nation is overweight. That is about 79.6 million people who are obese. Fast food is without a doubt the problem why these statistics are so high. According to Shannon Brownlee, a journalist for the Sacramento Bee “ It’s Portion Distortion That Makes America Fat” she mentions how fast food corporations are luring buyers into their offers . In another article by David Weintraub “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home” he focus more on self responsibility rather than fast food restaurants being convenient everywhere you go. In America, the obesity epidemic is caused by the lack of parent not taking full responsibility for their childrens health, as well as fast food industries distorting portion sizes in order to make more
The question that has been debated for years is who is responsible for the children’s weight. In the articles that where researched during this paper the parents were responsible. The reason that they were responsible was because the decisions that parent make about their family and the lifestyle that they live affects their child’s health and it can also affect their health in the future. When you move out of your parent’s house you tend to mimic things that they did such as if they always bought Tide as their laundry soap when you got out on your own you probably bought Tide. Now when you were in a pinch one time you may have tried another brand because it was cheaper but for the most part you revert back to what you know. As a parent you should want your children to be as healthy as they can be a lot of parents that where talked to while researching the subject of childhood obesity seemed to just not have the knowledge about obesity.
Parents are also the ones that show their children to blame someone else instead of them. In paragraph 4 it says, “But the danger in well-meaning studies and, even more, in lawsuits against the fast food industry, is that they send a message to parents and kids alike that obesity is somebody else’s fault.” In the article, “The battle against fast food begins in the home,” Daniel Weintraub says that the center’s opinion does not matter until parents realize that child obesity is their fault and stop blaming others. Paragraph 12 says, “But none of the center’s other ideas are likely to do much good until parents understand and accept their role in fighting the
My main reason why I truly believe that the parents are the ones to blame for children being obese, is because in the end they are the ones in charge of seeing what their children will eat at home. The parents are the ones that go grocery shopping. They decide what they will buy, not the children. It could be nutritional food, full of vitamins and proteins. If not then, it’s the easy way out. Meaning they buy chips, candy, and sugary drinks. in paragraph five of Weintraub’s article it included that, “It’s the fault of parents who let their kids eat unhealthy foods and sit in front of the television or computer for hours at a time.” If only the parents would teach their children to care about what they eat or that exercising is important, we wouldn’t have this problem.
As the Obesity rate in America is steadily increasing, people will continue to point fingers right at the fast food industries, but is that who really to blame or is it your parents for poor food choices(Weintraub)? Parents are a huge role in their child’s life and if you just let your children sit on the couch all day play on the computer, they will end up nowhere in life that is just my opinion. Research says 30 percent of our country’s residents are overweight, which means people are still not being healthy that’s when parents need to take matters into their own hands and buy actual food and not be cheap go fast food all the time(Sloviter). Also type 1 and 2 diabetes are at record highs and still rising at some point will be at a state
Today, in our fast-paced world of modern America, the availability of inexpensive, cheap processed food and drink is overwhelming. We have quickly become the most obese nation on the planet by simply allowing companies to lower nutritional value, raise sugar quantity, and increase fat and calorie percentages to an astounding amount. We as a nation buy into these consessions because of three main reasons: low price, convenience, and massive availability. Because of this, eating healthy is seen to be expensive, time consuming, and daunting. This is the opposite of what we need here in America. Big name companies spend billions upon advertising their sugary, fat-gushing products. When in reality, we should restrict the abundance of adverts, plastered all over major cities, social media, and television. We need to start taking a
The government with all of its power is now trying to tell you what you can and cannot eat. It is true that America has an obesity problem but people’s freewill should be respected in regarding individual lifestyle choices. Americans should have the freedom to choose what food they eat and the lifestyles they choose regardless of the impact on their health.
Daniel Weintraub's article, ¨The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home¨, argues that parents are to blame for America’s childhood obesity epidemic. Weintraub supports his argument by listing data and research from studies of C.O.E. . The author’s purpose is to raise awareness and inform readers that parents need to take responsibility for what’s happening to their own children. The author writes in a very informal tone for parents and guardians. K, but do I agree with Daniel. No, not really. Why? Well, (that was intentional)
Good news! We’re Number 2! As declared by a 2013 report from the U.N., America has only the second highest obesity rate in the world at 31.8%, second to Mexico with an obesity rate of 32.8%. America has held on to the title of most obese country for over 60 years. From 13% obesity in 1962, estimates have steadily increased right up to 2013’s 32.8%.
In Daniel Weintraub’s article, he argues whether parents are to blame for the weight gain epidemic seen in America. The cruelty of which parents let their children eat whatever without looking for the dangers, and leaving their children to be couch potatoes and lacking exercise in their everyday lives. Weintraub points it out that fast food companies and other food related industries are being sued for making a child, or teenager
A growing number of children are demonstrating unhealthy eating habits and as a result are becoming obese due to lack of physical activity, nutrition and genetics. Children in today’s society are not motivated to exercise and participate in after school activities. If we were to go back in time 15 to 20 years ago, children were encouraged to explore the outdoors by engaging in activities such as camping, bicycling, walking, running and playing sports. Now, living in the 21st century, technology has taken a major toll on our children health; they are spending more time indoors watching television, playing video, games, surfing the internet and texting on their mobile phones.
David Zinckenko argues in his article “don’t blame the eater”, that it is a matter of personal responsibility but can sympathize with the obese individuals as there is a lack of alternatives and information regarding fast food consumption. Society in the United States has raised concern about healthy diets, providing alternatives sources of food but unfortunately at a cost. The increased cost for a healthy diet dissuades teenagers from eating healthier food thus without a change of environment it can result in a lifetime of obesity.
In today’s society, technology has played a big role in everyone’s lives and has taken over. Kids today stay inside and play on the computer, watch TV, play video games, or mess with tablets and smartphones. Several people find other, more entertaining things to do than play outside and be active. Some of the times, physical education in schools is the only physical activity students have on a daily basis (“Obesity”). Kids and teenagers would much rather be wrapped up in a social network than going for a job or going to the gym. Back in the day, playing outside was one of the few entertainments. Parents have no discipline and let their children do what they want to their bodies. Technology has caused people to be less active and not as self-controlled causing them to be obese or overweight later in life.
The purpose of this statement is to express my position in regards to the ongoing issue in America of childhood obesity and whether or not parents are to blame for this ongoing trend.
