One of the main problems in today’s society is obesity. It is critical to know that obesity is something that tends to start at a young age, and needs to be heavily emphasized. There have been many improvements today that have attempted to combat obesity, such as, exercise programs, health programs, and after school programs to get children on the path to a healthier lifestyle. First, obesity is defined as “ having too much body fat” (“ Medline Plus.” 2015). Obesity is caused by many factors that can include technology, genetics, parents, and lack of exercise. One of the key problems associated with obesity would be the lack of physical activity. You can also determine a person’s obesity level by their BMI. BMI, or body mass index, is calculated by factoring your total weight and height. If the person has a BMI of 30 or over then they are considered to be obese. Also, waist circumference is another way to measure obesity. If the person has a BMI of 30 or over then they are considered to be obese. Second, “only one in four U.S teens get 60 minutes of physical activity daily.” (“Health Day,” 2015) It is important to know that obesity is something that starts at an early age and can continue till adulthood. “13 % of U.S children from the ages 2 to 19 are obese” (‘American Heart Association,” 2015).
