Obesity is spreading all across America and it is killing nearly as many citizens as cigarettes. People blame the individuals for not having self control and believe the Fast-Food industries are innocent. While some responsibility lies in within the individual, the main cause is the Fast-Food industry.
The fast-food industry and food packagers are definitely involved in the recent cases of obesity. Back then the portion sizes were a lot smaller, but in the recent years portion sizes have dramatically increased. “It was to a large degree the result of consumer manipulation”(Brownlee) The increase of portion sizes have manipulated customers to overeat and overspend which led to more profit. Soon later all competitors did the same thing and enormous portion sizes have became the norm. “The deal with all these enhanced portions is that the customers gets a lot more food for a relatively small increase”(Brownlee) Customers are manipulated into spending the extra cost for the enhanced portions. It is hard to blame victims when they are baited by companies to overeat.
