Throughout my life I have had the honor and privilege of helping people whenever the opportunity presented itself. After college, I aspire to become an Obstetric Surgeon; specialize in Fetal Surgery. When I was in the fifth grade my entire class did a project on what we all wanted to be. Upon my research, I discovered the entity of a surgeon. I knew from that moment on that it was the career for me. During my high school journey, I have cumulatively volunteered and interned in the Catawba Valley Medical Center Maternity Ward over 300 hours. While interning, I was able to not only observe patient interactions, but also experience what it would be like to work in such a field. By the end of my personalized interning experience I was performing
It started from wanting to be a doctor because almost everyone in my family is in the medical field in some way. I wanted to carry out that legacy at first, but then it did not feel true to what I really wanted. At that time, I really did not know what I wanted to do as a career. Then I entered into my junior year and in my English language and composition class, we were reading the book “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”. This book changed my life and helped me make my decision to become a Health Specialties teacher.
Just a few years ago, I fully realized that I want to be a Neonatal doctor. When I was about three, I had this little doll that I would carry around. One day we were watching Life and Trauma in the E.R. and I threw my baby doll onto the floor and started to resuscitate her. Ever since then I knew that I wanted to be a doctor of some kind; I just wasn't sure what kind of doctor I wanted to be.
The job I would like to do when I am older is neonatal surgery. I think neonatal surgery is a wonderful profession for me because I love babies. This job entails working with and performing life saving surgeries to premature babies, or babies with birth defects. I feel as though this job is a gift because you’re giving life to another human and also giving them another chance at life.
My selected career would be an OB/GYN or something in the medical field. I am very interested in that career because it's inspiring how someone can have such a huge impact on people's lives. I became interested in being in the medical field at a very young age, and it is a huge goal of mine to stay true to my dream. From being at doctors offices and hospitals monthly and sometimes weekly when I was in elementary school, I am very used to being around doctors and medicine.
For the past two weeks I have been performing my clinical at Holton Community Hospital experiencing what it is like to be on the floor with the patients and I had the opportunity to see what it was like in the Family Practice part of the hospital.
Surgeons treat any injuries, diseases and deformities through operations. A large number of surgeons usually choose to perform general surgery, a lot of surgeons choose to specialize in a specific area. Surgeons examine patients, perform and interpret diagnostic tests and counsel patients on preventative healthcare. Some examples of the specialties that surgeons do are orthopedic surgery which is the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. Neurological surgery which is the treatment of the brain and nervous system. Reconstructive surgery which is to perform or treat structures of the body affected by defects, abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors or disease. The last one I’m going to name is cardiovascular surgery which is the treatment of the heart and the profession I want to pursue.
The career I choose to become when I’m older is a pediatrician. I choose this career because when I was in the second grade our teacher was teaching a lesson on what you want to be when you 're older. I had no clue but I always wanted to help someone or something in needed like for example a vet or doctor.
Cesarean Sections In the United States alone one third or 33% of births are by c-section, while the ideal c-section rate is supposed to be around 19%. So why are so many more women getting c-sections now? Most women go into the hospital thinking that they have no choice but to listen to what the doctor has to say and go with it. Women should have the final say when it comes to c-sections or induced pregnancies, with the exception of a life threatening situations.
Every child gets asked what they want to be when they grow up. Some say they want to be astronauts and others say princesses. I would always say I wanted to become a doctor. As I grew older, I had never changed my mind. I hope to someday become a non-invasive Cardiologist. I chose this career because heart disease has become more of a concern in the past few years. Also, because I enjoyed working with the heart in previous medical classes I had taken in high school. I want to help people and give them a way to be healthier and live longer.
Throughout life people dream of doing something that is amazing, and my goal is to do just that. Ever since I was a kid, I knew that I wanted to assist others and make an impact on people's lives in a positive way. Knowing this, I have always wanted to be a pediatric nurse to better the lives of children in need.
The career that I have been ardent about for many years and hope to pursue is in the medical field. I hope to become a Registered Nurse in the near future. Also, to fulfil my dreams of helping people everyday and doing what I enjoy tremendously. I find this particular career very fascinating and alert.
Ever since the summer before 8th grade I knew that my calling is to become a Cardiovascular Surgeon. When I discovered my calling in life I carved out a path to where I am now, everything that I have done from that point on has been to improve myself so I am able to attend medical school.
Up until my senior year of high school I dreamed of becoming a Cardiovascular surgeon. I loved learning about the human body, I like to help people and I thought it would be a good fit. I took many pre-med classes through school one of them being medical forensics, this class intrigued me. One of the units in my medical forensic class was forensic psychology and I learned to love it more than any other class I had taken thus far.
Description of Practice Experience: During the second half of CPE I have switched from the medical floor to the maternity floor at KLH. I have had the opportunity to shadow nurses as they work with expecting mothers, postpartum care, newborns and the younger cliental. May has been a quit month, leaving me with little to do majority of the time. As we come into June, I have observed a cesarean delivery and a vaginal delivery. I am hoping that my last two shifts will be filled with more deliveries and opportunities for my learning. Due to the fact that the majority of my practice days are slow, I have learned a lot from asking nursing on the floor questions and reading through the resources on the floor.
The first modern caesarean section was performed by German gynaecologist Ferdinand Adolf Kehrer in 1881.(1) Probably the very first documented evidence of caesarean birth is a legal text dating to theera of Hammurabi (1795-1750 BC), describing the birth of a male child “pulled out of the womb” of a deceased woman (7).
