Odysseus : A True Hero As A Hero

Hero or superhero, superhero or hero? What’s the difference between Batman, Spiderman, Supergirl, Flash, Thor or Odysseus, Hercules, Achilles, Perseus, Zeus? A superhero is a fictional hero having extraordinary or superhuman powers, a hero on the other hand is a person admired for bravery, great achievements, or good qualities. In the epic The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus struggles to return home after the Trojan war hitting many obstacles on his way home. He is a true hero, exemplified bravery, masters the art of strategy, all while serving as an role model of righteousness for his crew. Bravery is often defined as having courage or being intrepid, but it’s much more than that, it’s having the strength to face danger. Many people think being brave means one has to be intrepid when actually it’s the complete opposite; they are scared, but they do it in spite of that to protect one’s they care for. In The Odyssey by Homer, an example of bravery is Odysseus “ rammed it deep in his crater eye”(Homer 291). Odysseus is ramming a pike into the Cyclops eyes to protect his men from being in even more danger. This trait bravery is proved by putting his life at risk to get his men out alive and safe. Bravery was also proved by Richard Winters “He got shot in the leg and still kept going.” He got injured and still kept moving to protect his men to make sure they can make it home safely. This trait makes him a hero because despite being injured, he kept moving to protect his men
