The Odyssey is full of blood and excitement. It also has drama and love. This book is about a guy, named odysseus, who travels a long journey back home to be with the love of his life and see his son for the first time after 20 years. The odyssey is also full of archetypes. Archetypes are: characters, actions, or situation that is a pattern of human life. Three of the main archetypes in this story that I found most interesting were the heroic, father figure, and the monster archetypes.
In most stories the heroic archetype can’t be left out. The article “ The hero’s journey’’ says “this archetypes of heroism allows an individual to serve as the primary example of what society deems as valuable and moral.” Odysseus is the heroic archetype of this story because he goes through a lot of wars and problems but nothing seems to hurt or kill him. For example, when he was hanging from the tree branch he lasted nine days without food and water, but he still lived. Also in the article “The Hero’s journey” it says “a hero should be: successful ,brave, cunning, and strong.”

The father archetype is the protector or the leader of a story. An example that the Odyssey gives us is on 583 when Odysseus tries to cheer up his crew even though he knows that some crew members are going to die. This shows us that Odysseus cares about his crew members. Another example in the Odyssey is when Odysseus and his crew were trapped in the cyclops cave and Odysseus got his got his men out safely. This shows that Odysseus is not selfish and that he protects his men from harm. A third example that the Odyssey shows us is when Odysseus and his crew were going to face the Sirens. Odysseus made sure that his crew had bee’s wax in their ears so they weren’t affected by the Sirens singing. Again this shows how Odysseus cares about his crew and how he doesn’t want them to get hurt. The Odyssey has many different kinds of
Many of the archetypes in this story were the origin for the archetypes used in todays literature. Two examples in “The Odyssey” are the temptress and the father-son

A Homeric epic hero is considered to be above a normal human being. The traits of a typical epic hero are strength, loyalty, courage, and intelligence. In fact, the Macmillan Dictionary for Students defines a hero as "one who is admired and looked up to for valor, achievements, and noble qualities" (483). Odysseus fulfills all of the requirements for an epic hero and more. He demonstrates his ability to be an articulate speaker, and his poise aids him on his journey. His endless curiosity has gotten him into dilemmas, while his superb displays of strength and cunningness have helped both him and his crew escape danger. His arrogance sets him back, but his loyalty is what drives him forward on his long and treacherous expedition. In the

The ancient hero Odysseus of the epic The Odyssey possesses numerous notable heroic traits, many of which have influenced the modern perspective of a hero in literature, real life, or otherwise. For instance, he demonstrates paragon amounts of loyalty throughout his return voyage to Ithaca, along with leadership, courage, and persistence. As Odysseus is primarily an archetype in addition to his heroic characteristics, his influences have endured the odyssey of time, and have become comparable in themselves to their prior forms present in the adventurous hero Odysseus. Although the modifications in the perceptions of Odysseus (or, generally, similar heroes of his time) and modern heroes do not differ in extremely significant or outstanding

In The Odyssey, many major events and relationships occur in Odysseus’ life. The first reason why the odyssey follows the hero’s journey Archetype is because odysseus is charged with a quest. In “Calypso’s island” Odysseus changes his quest. He wants to get home from the war and get through all the obstacles. Homer says “ I drove my big hen spike deep in the embers charring it again, and cheered my men along with battle talk to keep their courage up:no quitting now.”(Homer) Odysseus quest was to get home to see his family and also all of his soldiers that he fought with missed their families too. He was trying to motivate them and make them more scared so they would do things faster. This was a heroic move because in the end it help the men move forward.

In the book the Odyssey, Odysseus is an archetypal hero for several reasons. An archetype hero is “a person, generally a man, of tremendous physical strength who loves his family and country equally.”(handout).
Archetypes are found in every story and movie that we read or watch today, there are many found in The Odyssey. The Odyssey is an epic poem written by Homer, an ancient Greek poet, in 750 BC. This is a story about a man named Odysseus trying to get home after the 10 year Trojan War, but he faces many troubles and challenges along the way. Our teacher referred to Odysseus as an archetype, an ideal example of manhood. So, if manhood is the state or period of being a man. What determines the difference between a man and a child? Is it mere age, or is it more? Who’s to say that Odysseus was even a hero, let alone someone who should be considered an archetype?
Despite this being an ancient story, the Odyssey and the Iliad are classics and are considered by some the foundation for western literature. Despite this story being well known for Odysseus being the hero who survived many hardships and trials, he's not actually a hero. Although he is very brave, he is also extremely arrogant, and more people are killed/put in
