As people, our feelings and attitudes on things have existed for so long over such a long period of time that this makes it extremely hard for us to see some of the visible truths in different situations. Sometimes people that are blind and cannot see at all can actually see more than a person that has their full sight. In life, we often blind ourselves to the difficult truth, which is inevitably predetermined and is too painful for us to bear. Sight is used throughout the play Oedipus the King to allude readers to all the significant things that Oedipus should have been aware of. Our beliefs that cannot and will not be faltered. Even though we might have heard other people's perspectives or beliefs on the same subject, we are headstrong in our own beliefs. I can relate to the topic so much. When I was very young I gave a child up for adoption due to several different circumstances.I was so blinded by my pride about the choices that I made that I could speak to no one about it. Since then I have seen so many people that are prideful and driven about missing pieces of their past, the adoption was very open and I have stayed connected with my son all throughout the years. Today my son is such a big part of my life and I am very grateful that his parents and myself were very open about everything. I also know that he is not driven to find out about his past because of the choices we made to have an open adoption. Pride can sometimes be so powerful and deadly that people feel like they have to hide those family secrects and then later on when we become fully aware of the choices we have made we have to deal with the
