I found out later, that myself and Mark was the revenge of my sex craved husband’s escapade. Despite everything, I went to talk to my friend Mark. Okheim’s didn’t want me to know or associate with Mark because of an incident. One day I had to get legal papers signed for my book deal release. Okheim dropped me off at the law firm that morning and there we saw Mark going into Stanford and Hunley, the law firm. I yelled to him to wait and he waved back; that’s when Okheim asked me to rethink Mark as my lawyer. I blew him off and we didn’t discuss my marriage with Mark, only business. But as we continued with my book signings, I had to continue contact with Mark, and you know with this much interacting you’re going to gain friendship. I guess this
In the development of Okonkwo’s character, he a hard time coping with the fear of being a failure and weakness and knowing himself although he continue to make bad choices. “The wife who had been beaten murmured something something about guns that never shot. Unfortunately for her, Okonkwo heard it and ran madly into his room for the loaded gun, ra out again and aimed at her as she clambered over the dwarf wall of the barn. He pressed the trigger and there was loud report accompanied by the wail of his wives and children. He threw down the gun and jumped into the barn, and there lay the women, very much shaken and frightened but quite unhurt. He heaved a heavy sigh and went away with the gun.”(Chapter 4,pg.28) Despite, the fact Okonkwo tried to kill his wife at one smart remark, he was in a fury. However, Okonkwo says he doesn’t want to be like his father and have weakness, although beating your wife makes him lesser than a man; weak. I think that beating a woman is weak, especially over a weak point and during “The Week of Peace”. “But his whole life he was dominated by fear, the fear of failure and of weakness”-- “It was the fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble a father. Even as a little boy he had resembled his father’s failure and weakness.”(Chapter 2,pg.10) When will Okonkwo stop letting his dad leave a mark in his life to bring back old memories and worries? It may hurt him in many ways where he can’t control what he do/say, but it’s time for him to
Ultimately, Klosterman has a great point on how to behave with her friend after she reveals her cruel secret affair on her husband. In making an argument, I take an issue on drawing a boundary and staying away from this lying friendship, even though her friend does not directly fib to her. When we are talking about lying, we are thinking about falsehood that affect to the relationship to the point where belief simply turns into meaningless word. It is no longer to be said of being a couple. Lying breaks a strong tie of
Better Runoff: California is a coastal state so it has an easy way to get rid of its sewage and runoff. They just have it get drained out into the Sea. However, what if cities could reroute their pipelines into a treatment plant instead. With that many people in one area there is bound to be a lot of wastewater. Why should all this water be wasted instead of being used? Though it doesn’t sound very sanitary it is already being done not only there, but in other places, such as Nevada and Arizona. Although, with the huge population there needs to be more treatment plants in order to keep up with the amount of people living there. According to Gary Wockner, "Enough water flows into the ocean from Southern California’s streets and sewers to meet all of the area’s water needs—that’s right ALL of them (2015)."
That first afternoon in his living room, I wanted to use her as a one-person focus group. To get into her head why she loved going on cruises when Graydon hated them. It was research for my work, nothing else. He shut me down fast telling me, “My wife is unavailable.”
That’s what happen when you give second chances, and let someone ruin your life! No one wants to be treated like an option. Do you? In Margaret Atwood shorty story, “Happy Endings C” the author explains to us the relationships between an older man and his wife Madge, Mary and the older guy(John) are intimate, but on the other hand Mary had a boyfriend name James, but he’s not ready to commit. In summary of, James caught Mary and the old man in bed together and shoots them and then himself. But why? In thought of, “Happy Endings C” could be used to explore the issue on bad marriages.
What happen was John threw that situation in my face, he said, “Mom what difference does it make, Kim, (name change for confidentiality), comes over lays in the bed with me to watch TV and sometimes when you and her mom go out, she spends the night and me and her are only friends.” John’ story was “Kim isn’t my only female friend, you don’t trust me.”
Edgar Allen Poe lived a very traumatic life and faced very hard obstacles which would later inspire him to write or in other words form the gothic and horror genre. He was born on January 19, 1809 and unfortunately passed away on October 7th, 1849. His grief started at a young age when his father walked out on him and his mother passed away at the age of two. With the loss of his mother who he loved dearly and having to move away from his siblings also appended to the grief Edgar faced. Yet again when he was forced to move off to college his stepfather refused to help Edgar pay for school. This caused him to spiral into a deep depression. Many other students would come to look at his artworks and poems. Edgar used many stories to incorporate his
Okonkwo “ The Unknown, is the Untold ” The book of how Things Fall Apart is two different things what happened before the British came and what happened after the British came to Okonkwo Ibo culture. “As the twentieth century ends, commerce and culture are coming closer together. The distinction between life and art has been erod”...
Fowler, in a letter from his wife, is again exposed for never taking sides. "You say that we've always tried to tell the truth to each other, but, Thomas, your truth is always so temporary. (110)" Because Fowler always tried to be objective, it even influenced his own marriage. His wife couldn't trust him because he never chose sides; he never developed his own opinions and stuck by them. Fowler's truth was always temporary because while staying objective, he never got involved enough to make himself care to maintain one position. "I'll have done my best'- aren't you thinking that? What would you do if I cabled "Yes"? Would you actually marry her? (109)" Fowler's wife calls him out on the fact that even though he is asking her for a divorce and essentially the right to marry Phuong, which he does not name, even if she does grant him what he's asking for Fowler won't be able to act on it. This truth', that fowler says he's in love with Phuong, is only temporary. If fowler were to truly love Phuong and really want to marry her he would then be in the position of choosing sides. He would finally be saying that he really isn't objective, he isn't the reporter' that he thinks he is. This is what his wife sees and therefore called him on it.
Several years ago there were two men who seemed to have pretty solid friendship with one another. The first one goes by the name of Montresor. Monntresor is an alchoholic and everyone only saw him as a nobody. He had a soft spot and secretly he was very gentle and kind. The second man is known as Fortunato. Fortunato is very wealthy as well as a big bully to the people not as fortunate as he is. He has learned to hide that part of him well with his apologetic personality. The two men ran into each other at the carnival that came into town and they instantly clicked with each other. Standing in line at the ticket booth Fortunato turned around in a quick motion and accidently hit Montresor in the nose while looking around making sure no one else was looking him as he pulled out a wad
Have you ever experienced wanting to know who someone was? Well, over the summer, two of my close guy friends were telling me many stories about a teammate and a friend of theirs. Mark and I met over text and in the beginning he seemed very nice. Although, after just a couple days of texting him I began to see that my friends were telling the truth. Mark began to become creepy and would never leave me alone and also claimed that he liked me. I

In Things Fall Apart, a novel by Chinua Achebe, children are looked upon as insignificant. Achebe gives this image by demonstrating how the culture treated children, but the main way the reader is able to visualize how children are being treated is by including how Okonkwo interacts with his children and how he treats them. The children in this novel and culture are not taken into consideration by the elders because they do not have a say in their own happiness, they are designated to hard labor and to act like servants, and they are always being criticized if something is abnormal or if they are not a specific way that is expected from them. In the novel, young people's lives are dictated by their elders, meaning that they had to live by how the others wanted them to and not by how they desired to
It was a crisp summer morning and I awoke to begin my day. Usually I would go out to Joe’s farm and work with him, but today I had to stay home to help with chores and things. It was just about noon and as I was biting into the garlic crust on my Domino’s pizza my phone began to ring. I grabbed a few paper towels to clean the slick grease off my fingers and ran to my phone. Joe was calling and asked me if I minded him coming over and of course I had no quarrel. I checked with my parents and they agreed that it was fine. Joe arrived nearly twenty minutes later, and he looked as if he had
