What is an individual’s role in society? Many people may ask this question quite frequently. And 3 stories that I have read explained to me what an individual’s role is in society. These stories are called Once Upon a Time, The Gettysburg Address, and The Vietnam Wall. All these stories caught my interest and I learned a lot from these stories. And it answered the question on what is someone’s role in society. Let’s start off with Once Upon a Time. Once Upon a Time is basically the way Nadine Gordimer feels. It takes place at a point in her life where she has to write a story for a children’s book. If you really think about it, it doesn’t sound like the type of story to answer this question. The Gettysburg Address is about Abraham Lincoln talking about reuniting the country. This speech that Abraham Lincoln give us, gives us a little more detail about the person he is and what kind of country he would like to have. And he played an important role in society. He gives us confidence and hope to reunite this country and give us freedom and liberty. He changed so many people’s lives with his inspiring words. Let’s finish off with a poem called The Vietnam Wall. This poem is about a wall in Washington D.C and how important it is to people. This wall is important because it has the names of all the Vietnam veterans who died. This shows us a lot. These soldiers died for us to live. This wall leaves a scar to all the families who lost someone important to them. But what this poem does is make you feel like you’re in front of that wall. It makes you feel how others feel when they’re in front of that wall. In conclusion, all of these texts answers the question on what is an individual’s role in society. An individual’s role in society is to make the world a better place. All of these stories give examples on how these people make the world better. They are all inspiring in their own ways.
