They not only have heard the lyrics of each aspiring rapper but their stories behind the reason they're pursuing a career in hip-hop. From the thousands of contestants, they pick a final six to perform in front of a celebrity judge and a live audience. T.I. and DJ Drama take part in judging each performance of the final six and as intense as each performance is only one of the six can attend the finals in New York City. The thought behind One Shot is inspiring and entertaining to watch. It's unbelievable that each artist has to come up with their own songs and perform them live. Many of these artists have little experience in front of an audience and to hear the judges criticism motivates each contestant to be better whether they win or not. In the book “Decoded,” rapper and businessman Jay-Z describes the emergence of hip hop culture while sharing his childhood memories, life challenges, and passions. Along with Jay-Z’s personal narrative, he provides an explanation for his song lyrics to educate readers about hip hop’s importance, his life, and national issues. Thus, he creates several arguments about hip hop’s purpose in the music industry. Two of Jay-Z’s main arguments consisted of hip hop being a form of art and the story of a hustler. This is especially true when considering how Jay-Z defines hip hop, analyzes supporting evidence, and interprets rap lyrics.

Hip Hop was not just the music; it was also a way for the young to show their skills in break dancing, gymnastic dance style that was valued, and athleticism over choreographed fluidity. Hip hop was also fashion such as: hats, jackets, gold chains, and name-brand sneakers. Hip Hop was a form of graffiti, to a new way of expression that engaged spray paint on the subway walls as the canvas. Hip hop is a form of art which can be expressed through rap songs, break-dancing, and graffiti art. The culture has become so popular that it has entered today’s fashion and modern language. Hip hop music is an extremely large part of today’s generation and a global genre, which influences the generation all over the world.
Hip Hop has been a thread of music that is deeply rooted in the struggle within the black communities of America. There is a great deal of skill involved in the production of a Hip-Hop song. Although there is no melody, rappers need to work hard to master their "flow" which needs to have rhythm. The real talent of rappers comes in the poetry of their songs. It is difficult to write a song that rhymes, flows and has some substantial content. A good rapper is able to blend poetry and music to create a unique song full of eloquent language. An example of the literary quality of some of these rap songs can be illustrated in the song, " I used to love H.E.R. by common sense. In this song, the artist uses a woman as a metaphor of hip-hop.
