Online classes are now becoming more and more relevant now because of technology. They are often viewed as an amazing way to get your credits done for high school and college, but in reality it is not. The reason it’s not a savior of education is because it makes the course easier for kids to cheat on it. They also miss out on important social interaction growing up that could later help kids in life. Everyone is not the same and have different learning and teaching styles that fit them best. Most students have thought of at one time how to cheat on a test or homework. The sad part about it is that most of us do find a way to take the easy path to get our homework done. If the course is online the education board has made it that much easier for us to find the answers. If someone was to take an online science class let 's say in biology and the teacher ask a question about how a frog reproduces. The students has less worries about being caught from the teacher because most of the questions are multiple choice and it’s online someone else could take the test for them. Unfortunately technology is a tool and can be used in negative and positive ways. If the student if using the Internet for a quick fix he is not understand the material. Students need attentiveness from the teacher to make learning not an option they can skip out on. Even if the online course was to block out other tabs a student could use another computer and device to cheat. No one benefits from this. As
When taking an online course there are many factors that could make it good or bad. Some of the factors that make a course good are the incorporation of media from multiple sources, quick feedback from the course instructor and classmates and set deadlines that students are able to work at their own pace to meet. Some factors that make an online course bad as follows: the feeling of having busy work that may not have any visible goal, having limited involvement from the instructor or classmates, as well as the feeling that the course is set up in a way that it does not promote students making connections with one another or the instructor. Therefore hindering the ability to share thoughts.
Online classes are best for people who feel they can produce better work in an isolated environment with no instructor or classmates directly in front of them. This also benefits more for people with full time jobs or other commitments that would prevent them from going to the classroom. Now the downside to this is that you have more temptation to be distracted from doing your work. Since you do practically all your assignments online, it's real easy to go right onto social media sites such as Facebook and see what everyone else is doing. I disagree with Glassner and Schapiro because some people want the traditional college experience. Don’t get me wrong, technology will eventually take over but a lot of students still want the experience of moving away and going to school. That experience is like nothing else because this is the time of a student’s life where they really discover themselves. Some students want to join social clubs, sororities, fraternities, etc. Online course do not give the students that opportunity. Some students want to travel and attend a school out of state. Some colleges and universities do not have online courses available to those who want to attend that school. The freedom that comes with living on campus is incomparable as well. Every action that the student makes affects the experience of the student. The biggest disadvantage of online courses is that you cannot connect with other students. This period in a person’s life is where the lifelong friends are made and this simply cannot happen if the person is taking online courses.
Opinions and Questions: Online courses do not give the same interaction that traditional classses do. You will not be able to ask questions easily and you won't hear the opinions of others in the class. While these aren't exactly deal-breakers, they can make you miss out on important topics that aren't talked about otherwise.
There are others, like myself, who feel that online learning is better. The supporters of this back their claim by stating that online classes can be more beneficial for teachers and students. For example, fewer distractions in a classroom like other students disrupting class. Students can come into class late after the teacher has already started class and cause a disruption or talk during the class. With online classes the student can control their environment. Also, a teacher can provide in writing just the basic information a student needs for an assignment. In a physical classroom, teachers are able to move around and be able to answers questions right then and there, but with online schooling students would have to wait a while to get a response from their teachers if they have questions (“Key”). The dropout rate for online schooling in very high, mostly because students don’t know how to prioritize their school schedule and don’t know how to be self motivated (Bejarano). Online college courses are almost becoming traditional for students. Some may perceive that a student does not receive an equal education when taking an online class. People tend to think that if a teacher is not directly giving the information about the subject, the course learning experience is different or unjust. This assumption is wrong according to the perception of many online course takers. Online college courses offer students the advantage to learn on their own time. The skills that a student learns in self-discipline, scheduling to complete graded assignments, and advantages learned with technology gives online classes equal education experience compared to classes on campus.

One major concern is that cheating will be increased due to there not being any proctoring or monitoring of exams. This is a very valid concern. Plagiarism is a major issue in any school, whether it is an online or a traditional classroom setting. The major concern that some people have is that plagiarism is much easier online than it is in a classroom setting. I would have to disagree with this. I have been both a student at a traditional university (Georgia State University), and I have been a student online (University of Phoenix for 2 years and now, Strayer University). If a student wants to cheat on a paper, it is just as easy to do it whether he/she is physically submitting it to a professor or electronically submitting it. The medium used for submission does not change the actual process the student takes when writing the paper. Also, cheating on an online exam is not as easy as one may expect. Most classes do not offer multiple choice online exams for the very reason that there is a concern, because it would be easy to copy and paste a question into Google or any other popular search engine.
