"There is a responsibility for those in a position of power to monitor not only the behaviors observable in the physical world, but also those in the online one. This rings true especially as the line between the world of the web and the natural world grows more blurry. The government must set clear boundaries in order to keep U.S. citizens informed, and more importantly, safe. Internet users have the right to privacy, but there are times when safety needs to be prioritized above all else.
There are countless instances and types of internet abuse. The possession and distribution of child pornography is an exceptionally alarming problem. Without online monitoring of any kind, those who exploit children will face no consequence. The children themselves will see no justice. We as a nation must decide what we place more value in, whether it be the safety of children or the freedom from government interference online.
An issue with the internet lies within the fact people tend to type and send without considering what may result. Their intentions are not easily determined when all that is seen are words on a screen, but what they type still

School Threat Assessment insists on this, also declaring investigation and thorough evaluation are necessary measures. Disciplinary actions must be taken, the threat documented, and further safety measures set to ultimately prevent a similar situation from occurring in the future. Those who face repercussions will exist as an example that what you say or do online is not unpunishable, and will thus serve as a cautionary tale. Bomb as well as gun threats are casually made online when the illusion of anonymity sways internet users from thinking clearly. Their alarming lack of judgement may work in the government’s favor if handled properly; the threat can ideally be tracked down and put a stop to before an irreversible mistake is made and lives are
"No government in any form, from federal all the way down to local government, should be able to monitor internet content without anyone being aware of it. Recently in social media we have seen lots of controversy involving this issue. With some people believing it it is a necessary evil, and other saying that no benefit can out way the violation of our privacy. The key to this issue is a compromise between both sides.
The United States is not surveillance society, but the government’s ability to collect data and “spy” on its people has reached an all time high in the digital age. Americans must continue to discuss and debate the government’s ability and limits in monitoring its citizens in the modern day. ()
E. Safety ,The internet is a very useful tool, but can be used as a vehicle for child pornography. Children and young people can also be exploited through social networking sites and need to be
1. ”Internet companies have an intimidating amount of unauthorized data and influence over the citizenry.”
"Nowadays, there are many dangers online; Cyberbullying, group organizations (for corrupt causes), and even videos showing methods that can cause harm are a few examples. I believe the US government, of any kind, should have the authority to monitor the internet; but only for the protection of the people as monitoring internet content, or personal emails/searches does violate the 1st and 4th amendment. They should be able to monitor certain words or searches, such as ISIS, BOMBS, ATTACKS, TERRORISM, and VIOLENT HATE CRIMES, etc. It would be done in order to protect the nation from a potential violent outbreak or even hate crimes.
"The US government along with federal, state, and local have authority over many different aspects of our everyday life. It is important to have structure and security in the society we live in. I believe we all have the right to our privacy to an extent. Government control over Internet content is a topic that is constantly being argued about daily. Monitoring the content of our internet does violate our privacy but, there is understandable reasons on why it should be monitored. The need for privacy, the reasons to what content is being monitored, and how often it is monitored are the focus to the extent of government involvement in internet monitoring.
" The United States government has a responsibility to ensure that every American has access to an internet that has a freedom of information. The internet has become a necessity in our everyday lives. School age Americans use the internet for research projects and even to submit homework. A vast majority of working-age Americans use the internet for the jobs or are involved in producing the inputs necessary to advance technology and keeping the current technology infrastructure working. The U.S. government has a limited duty in monitoring internet content. The government should have the ability to protect Americans from cyber acts and personal information theft. Currently the Federal Trade Commission has the power to regulate the internet
People should be prosecuted over things they say over social media. People say hurtful things over social media and personally they should be prosecuted and taken to court for things they say. Children don’t want to be labeled as a “ rat” or “snitch” in school so that is part of the reason why no one really tells a teacher about what is going on with them. Threats should not be taken lightly.
The American government exploits privacy for the purpose of looking for clandestine terrorists. This affects all the citizens that log in, and post updates on a daily basis, when in actuality a piece of their privacy is being sent to the United States Government. The US government has a very powerful and watchful eye, within the borders of the nation and the rest of the world. Privacy issues are no obstacle for Big Brother (U.S. Govt.). Privacy affects many facets of our daily lives; lesser things have sparked revolutions in the past. Privacy should be the central focusing topic for the public in this data age for all citizens of the world. Whenever citizens of America, or the world for that matter, log in to their computers, they do not realize the U.S. Government is compromising their very privacy.
"To what extent does the Government have the duty to monitor the internet? The Internet is a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. The Government should have control of the internet depending on the situation.
"After the tragedy of September 9, 2011 and the subsequent passing of the Patriot Act, Government surveillance has expanded in the age of technology in which we currently reside. Although the stated mission of this increase in surveillance of American citizens was to prevent major terrorist incidents such as 9/11 from happening again, many people refute this stated purpose as the truly invasive extent of this surveillance was revealed within the statements of Edward Snowden, a defector from the National Security Agency. However, internet surveillance has proven to be necessary in the newfound pervasiveness of online forums and websites that contain large amounts of illegal activity such as child pornography. Altogether, I would say responsibility to
" Nowadays, it can be perceived by society that the government is in utter control of our daily actions; however, there is a boundary they cannot traverse. Since the internet is ordinarily part of our everyday lives, many citizens of the United States believe the branches of government should be regulated on their extent of viewing internet content. It would be unethical if the government invaded privacy by monitoring our personal messages, facing prosecution based on information gathered without a warrant but, it would be essential if the government monitored folks who already have a criminal or terrorist record trailed behind them.
About 88% of the American population uses the internet, which helps to detail the fact that the internet provides the simplest methods for staying connected as a nation. Modern-Day society has resulted in the internet becoming a quintessential part of American life. This development highlights the fact that the Internet represents one of the few freedoms the American population still possesses. Consequently, taking that freedom away, or even trying to restrict it could, and more than likely would lead to either societal anarchy, or a society with authoritarian leaders. However, certain precautions on the internet could help increase safety. Taking away people’s rights on the internet represent the first step towards taking away all of their rights, which is why the government should have little -but still some- control over the internet, as it would result in America losing their first amendment rights, the general population being misinformed as a whole, but certain precautions could result in an increase in safety.

The Government should not be allowed to use PRISM to get personal information of ones life through any means of virtual back tracking until proven guilty of indefinite terrorist interaction.
The Internet, a combination of technology, communication, and media, is a developing and unique medium in its infancy. Technology and tools of communication are still in the process of development as technology continues to advance. As a site of cultural, political, and ideological discussion, it has unquestionably contributed to a culture and lifestyle dependent on technology. The World Wide Web has reconfigured people’s perception of the world, allowing access to an extensive amount of information that previously has been inaccessible to them. In addition to enabling users to gain access to a plethora of information, the Internet is a tool of globalization in which ideas, knowledge, and thoughts are instantaneously shared on a worldwide scale. While some have portrayed the Internet as a powerful tool for free expression on the global network, others have highlighted the potential of networks with which the government can constrain the power of organizations through collective online actions and surveillance. With increasing advancements in technology comes greater and easier access to information and control. In a democratic nation, the Internet’s ability to facilitate access to information about another person violates privacy rights. With the Internet, existing laws are ambiguous about what standards apply for different kinds of surveillance.
