The words open-minded and tolerance are used often in today’s lexicon when discussing some of the more pressing subjects of the day. However, as Inigo Montoya pointed out in “The Princess Bride”, “I do not think that word means what you think it means”. (Motion Picture, 1987) These are words and concepts that are tossed around without the critical thinking and considering what these concepts entail. By identifying three important attributes and being able to apply them to our own lives, we will be able to understand what being open-minded really means.
