Communicative competence is a combination of four different competences. To be communicatively competent, according to Hymes, means that a person, apart from having grammatical competence, knows if an utterance is feasible or not, if it is appropriate or not and also if it is accepted usage (Tornberg 1997:40).
The spoken communicative skill is complex. Since the utterances cannot be prepared in advance in a conversation a rather rapid usage of the language is required of the participants and what is being said must be right on a number of levels, that is “it must conform to the

speaker’s aim, to the role relationships between the interactants, to the setting, topic, linguistic context etc” (Johnson & Morrow 1986:11).
2.1.2 Communicative competence and Swedish curricular documents
Since the 1970s foreign language teaching in Sweden has focused on communication where the pupils have been taught to use the language in a communicative context (Tornberg 1997: 40-41). The current Swedish curriculum for the compulsory school states in its Goals and guidelines that school has to ensure that all pupils completing compulsory school “can communicate in speech and writing in English” (The Swedish National Agency for Education [www]). Further the current national syllabus for English in the Swedish compulsory school states that the school should aim for the pupils developing “an
Many times whenever teachers think of oral language in the classroom, the believe it to be a bad thing, because for so long we believed that if you were talking then that meant that you weren’t learning. This could not be further from the truth, in fact oral language is the foundation for students learning. It is through Oral language that we learn important skills such as listening, expressive language, and vocabulary. We as teachers can help to support oral language in our classroom in many ways.
As communication is a key element in my field, the necessity for them to develop excellent Language skills is key, as it also requires preparation, as elements of clear enunciation, focusing and the design of presentations are usually present in most of the courses within this field.

The authors attempt to convey the importance behind oral language and listening skills in reception children. Included in the article are results of children in varies school showing the lack of language skills. The author works on suggesting intervention programs to have a positive effect on these skills that need improvement throughout the school education. Surveys and researchers believe that about half of teachers are decreasing speaking and listening skills in the past five years. Practicing skills of talking and listening are essential. In my opinion, having the ability to speak is a way to communicate and share ideas and thoughts with others, and express feelings on how one feels. Listening skills are processed after we hear something. It involves one’s attention and decision to participate in a discussion and respond to message. Also, it requires the ability to focus on the conversation without being distracted, but having a meaningful connection with

Introduction: The importance of English language acquisition as a stepping-stone for proficiency in school subjects cannot be over emphasized. The knowledge of English is important both for educational, national and economic development of a country. English is the official language of administration and commerce and also a major language of science. Even though we use language in our everyday lives most of us don’t put much thought into what words we use or the different ways we may speak to someone in various situations. For example you may have noticed that the language you use when having a conversation with your friends differs from when you are speaking with your family. Difference in the use of language can also vary based on a persons class, gender, education, age, ethnicity and the particular social context they find themselves in.
My good speaking skills enable me to convey my ideas in clear and brief manner. One way through which my speaking skills enhance my communication is my pleasant tone to my voice. The pleasant tone of my voice makes the people whom I am speaking to be more attentive and interested in communicating. In addition, the tone of my voice enables the person I am communicating with to be more attentive and as a result capturing all the important ideas. Moreover, when I am communicating with a person I try to think before I speak so as to avoid conveying ideas which are not important to the person. This enables me to choose words selectively while speaking so as to avoid hurting the person I am speaking to. Another important of thinking before I speak is that I am able to remember additional points that might be useful to the person I am speaking to. Moreover, when speaking I ensure that the person whom I am talking to has enough time of answering the questions I present to him and enough time to present his ideas. When he is talking I listen to him keenly and I empathize with him where possible so as make him feel to be part of the discussion (Wigert et al 2013).

Communication is a complex activity which involve verbal and non-verbal communication, the topic under discussion, the prejudgments that people bring to the topic, and the “communication history” between participants in the discussion. A Speaker who transmits message must ensure that the message is delivered clearly. A listener who takes the messages must be an active listener. As effective communication can only take place when the recipient of the message understands it’s meaning and able to express that meaning back to the speaker or sender of the message. For the purpose of this assignment I chose Feruza, an Eritrean high school graduate. She was born and raised in Eritrea and came to live in Jeddah only five years ago. She studied English in an elementary school in Eritrea and continued studying it in an Eritrean International High School. She is not happy at all with what she has learnt during those years. She explained that during her elementary school years her teachers heavily focused on writing while neglecting speaking. When she continued her learning process here in Jeddah, her high school teachers focused only on speaking but not at the level she was expecting.
Nowadays, English has become an international language all over the world. Many people have learnt it as the second language after their mother tongue . Thus for Vietnam, English has gradually become the most widely used language in all kinds of international relations. Studying English in a country where English is considered as foreign language, we do not have many people who speak native English and we are not used to speaking as well as listening native English daily.
