Organization Background and new “plan”
According to HMRC website, Her Majesty 's Revenue & Customs and Revenue Agency and the UK Customs is a non-ministerial department responsible for the British government for the collection of taxes, payment of certain forms of state support and the administration of other regulatory regimes including the national minimum wage.
HMRC was formed by the merger of the Agency 's Revenue and Customs and Excise of His Majesty, which entered into force on 18 April 2005.
The department is responsible for the administration and collection of direct taxes, and in particular:
• Income tax and corporation tax (Corporation Tax)
• capital taxes, such as capital gains (Capital Gains) and inheritances
• indirect taxes, including value added tax or VAT Value Added Tax
• excise stamps (Stamp Duty) land duty and environmental taxes such as Air Passenger Duty and climate change.
Other responsibilities of the department include:
• national insurance contributions
• distribution of family allowances and certain other forms of state support including the Child Trust Fund
• payments of tax credits
• implementation of the National Minimum Wage (Minimun Wage)
• administer records on anti-money laundering (Money Laundering)
• collection and publication of statistics of trade-in-goods.
The responsibility for the protection of the UK Borders went to the UK Border Agency under the Ministry of the Interior on 1 April 2008.
