The company has its headquarters in Waterloo, Ontario, with global divisions in North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Caribbean and Asia Pacific. Initially, the company was known as Research in Motion Limited (RIM) until it changed its name to BlackBerry Limited. For many years, Research in Motion Limited remained unknown until it came up with a breakthrough technology in 1999. The new technology enabled two-way mobile e-mail and messaging (Sweeny, 2009, p. 1). BlackBerry was the name of the new product. From that point onwards, BlackBerry grew from strength to strength to become one of the most valuable technology companies. By this time, BlackBerry was the product of choice for many business people, Hollywood stars and politicians. That was long before Apple and Samsung came along with other innovative products that threw BlackBerry off the market. The entry of competitors disenfranchised BlackBerry, and the company has gone downhill from that point. For instance, according to the fiscal results of 2014, the company recorded a net operation loss of $ 5.9 billion, or $ 11.18 per share (BlackBerry Limited, 2014).
