Organizational Development (OD) is a field of research, theory, and practice dedicated to expanding the knowledge and effectiveness of people to accomplish more successful organizational change and performance. OD is a process of continuous diagnosis, action planning, implementation and evaluation, with the goal of transferring knowledge and skills to organizations to improve their capacity for solving problems and managing future change. Effective communication is the core fundamental of high performance organizations. In trainings, teach participants how to understand cultural differences, how to communicate effectively, and how to create a common language. This common language can become part of a larger, internal communication program, focusing on core values and behaviors. In other situations, this can be part of implementation of specific instruments. ii. Characteristics of Organizational Development The ability to interact effectively with others can make the difference between success or failure in our work and personal life. A social system is a complex set of human relationships interacting in many ways. Within an organization, the social system includes all the people in it and their relationships to each other and to the outside world. The behavior of one member can have an impact, either directly or indirectly, on the behavior of others. Also, the social system does not have boundaries...it exchanges goods, ideas, culture, etc. with the environment around it (Schein, 1968). Culture is the conventional behavior of a society that encompasses beliefs, customs, knowledge, and practices. It influences human behavior, even though it seldom enters into their conscious thought.
