Organizational Structure and Design Portfolio An organization’s environment is a set of forces that surround the organization. The forces have the potential to affect the way an organization operates and how the organization handles the changing environment pressures. As a result of the changing environmental pressures, crucial tasks for organizations are to embrace, control, and adapt to the changes. At times, organizations may prefer to decide to alter its structure and design to create different competences. Medicare Contractor Management Group The Medicare Contractor’s Management Group (MCMG) is an organization under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a federal government agency. MCMG produces a service that manages all Medicare Part A and Part B contractors to ensure satisfactory adherence to contractual obligations while remaining in the prescribed funding. Like many organizations, MCMG’s faces many forces that influence the way the division operates. Figure 1.1 identifies the specific and general environment domain forces that influence the pressures facing the organization. Responding to Organizational Forces Specific to MCMG’s domain, the most important forces that the organization has to deal with are government for specific environment. Specifically, government forces influences the way MCMG governs the contractor’s day-to-day operational activities.
