A1. Country to Compare Healthcare is so expensive! How many times have you heard someone in the United States of America (U.S.) say that? Is it the same in other countries? The best way to discover this is to compare differences between the U.S. and another country. To this end the comparison will be between the U.S. and Great Britain (G.B.) Access to health care can sometimes be a challenge. That challenge is even greater for people whose needs are extensive and costly or those who have special needs and have difficulty figuring out access on their own. This would include the unemployed, the retired and children. Improving access for these individuals is a very necessary, ongoing activity. It will be interesting to see how the U.S contrasts with G.B.
A2. Access
CHILDREN:
In G.B. children have full, free connection to healthcare covered by the National Health Service (NHS). There is no charge for any healthcare services. They or their parents can choose any hospital/medical center that they wish to go to.
In the U.S., healthcare coverage is available for children under their parent’s healthcare plan until the age of 26. If parents do not have health insurance there are programs available to help bridge the gaps. Programs like the Children’s Health Insurance Program in some states, in other states it is included under Medicaid and is a federal program.
