Professor, Orpheus has me convinced that it works well in an Orchestra. A traditional Orchestra has a hierarchy of Conductor, first chair, second chair, and so on for each instrument. Orpheus promotes a structure of equality where everyone will play in the first chair at some point in the performance. Giving each individual a chance to shine will promote player retention. I believe the Orpheus structure could work with any well-rehearsed team. The reason I say well-rehearsed is that teams tend to need time to develop proficiency. During the video I pondered how productive would Orpheus be in a business that was just reorganized. I do not believe Orpheus is a good option for newly established teams. I am currently on a team that promotes
The movie Instructions Not Included is shown off as a Mexican, sweet and cheesy chick flick through its previews. This movie is not just comedy, cute, witty, funny, but also contains extremely powerful messages through a truly heart-warming story. The movie follows a resident playboy in Mexico named Valentine. Countries have the right to detain people to protect national security, as long as those people actually pose threats. “Harmony Off Key” is a video displaying the conditions and prejudice Japanese-Americans faced during World War 2. In the video, a man describes the experiences he had while held in Camp Harmony. As the video goes on, you also learn about Japanese-Americans being detained and sent off to camps.
After watching the two AAIDD videos, my perspective on self-determination has grown. I never realized before just how important self-determination was to a student who has intellectual or developmental disabilities’ ability to succeed. Teachers and parents should provide a supportive environment that will foster these self-determination skills such as goal setting. By setting their own goals, they are working on developing skills that will help them have a higher quality of life later as they transition into adulthood. Setting goals and working toward goals was just a normal part of my education, but I didn’t realize just exactly what they provide skills wise for students who have exceptionalities. It is important for these students to gain
I found the signing statements the most interesting in Chapter Seven. A signing statement is an announcement made by the president at the time of signing a bill into law. This is used sometimes to show the presidents’ interpretation of the new law and their predictions of the many benefits of the new law. It also has been used to identify sections of the law that are considered improper or unconstitutional. There have been many signing statements throughout history but many of them were not recorded.
Something I found particularly interesting in the “Mya Renaissance” video was the architecture that the Mayans created. The structures that they built were beautiful. The structures were the largest structures outside ancient Egypt at the time. It amazes me that they can build structures so vast without the equipment that we have today. It also is unbelievable that many of these structures are still standing today because of how well they were built. It was also interesting to me how the cities were laid out according to the cardinal directions of Mayan belief. The structures were created for specific events and used as markers for the Mayans. The “El Castillo pyramid at Chichen Itza” is particularly interesting because it catches the light
In this video of TEDx, Anna Lappe, an author, explains how the food industries uses different marketing tactics to target children. Lappe’s main claim in this video is to tell food industries to leave the parenting to parents, and gives many reasons as to why. One of them is that the food industries are now using cartoon characters on their food such as Dora, Shrek, and many others in order to appeal to kids. By doing so, food industries have now created a brand loyalty among children, meaning that now kids will only buy the food just because of the cartoon character on the box cover, that brand loyalty may last years. In other words, kids are being brainwashed by the food industries. Another reason as to why the parenting should be left for
In the spring of 2015, I was a junior in high school. The day I initially heard about the “SAE” video, started like any other. I had gotten ready to leave for school when my mom stopped me to watch something on the news. This wasn’t abnormal at all so I looked to see what she was talking about. As we heard the story and what had happened we were both flabbergasted. Neither of us could believe that that had happened, much less at the University of Oklahoma. When I got to school, the video was the major talk considering we had people recently graduate from our high school and pledge to that fraternity. It seemed as if our school was in shock that people, specifically the people we knew, would say and participate in something so horrific.
One of the most prevalent forms of invisible social control is the creation and perpetuation of stereotypes. Today’s society is filled with stereotypes and the media has proven to be an excellent breeding ground. Research in the stereotype domain indicates that the media can prime stereotypes, and these primed stereotypes do influence how people are later perceived. Also the research on media priming of stereotypes generally increases confidence in the generality of the media as a prime. Television, movies, newspapers and magazines contain millions of images that feature individuals portrayed in stereotypical ways. This paper will examine the February issue of Marie Claire and the gender and racial stereotypes that are evident within the
Set yourself, a white male, in a scenario. You are patrolling the streets in your squad car of Twentynine Palms, CA, when you spot a traffic infraction. You pull behind a car with your lights flashing. You get out of your vehicle and approach the car, making sure all the steps are taken such as pressing on the trunk to verify the trunk is secure and placing your prints on the car just in case the driver decides to leave the scene. Upon approach you realize you are dealing with someone of a different race; however, as a law enforcement officer race doesn’t cross your mind. You have way to many other things to think about such as does this guy have a gun, am I going to deal with someone who is going to be aggressive or will they be passive
After, watching the short video spoken by Jean Kilbourne; which she stated a lot of things that made you think deeper into reality. Watching the video; she made some good points that stood out to me; such as Brad Pitt, Linda Evangelista, Lorde, and men and women who are photo shopped; to make it seem like they are something that they are not. As you continue to watch the video; Jean Kilbourne made opinion about gender. She believes that the media makes celebrities look like something they are not; which is causing children that are growing up to want to be someone they are not because they see it in the Ad’s, magazines, and commercials. As, I stated previous in the paragraph; one of the points that was made about gender. Was the Chance Ad
The TEDx Talks video, A Special Technique for our Health and Wellness, by Dr. Howard Chen, discusses how adults should use a special technique for physical play in order to improve physical, mental, and emotional health. To explain, the special technique is completely free and requires no specific equipment or cost. Moreover, it is something people already know how to do (Chen, 2014). Dr. Chen is stating people have been doing it for years and may have quit at some point in their life, however, it is a special technique that can be restarted. To illustrate, it is similar to riding a bicycle; once people learn how to ride a bicycle, they do not forget how to do it. In essence, Dr. Chen is talking about physical play. In other words, as people
1.) What is one definition of culture from the sheet "What is Culture?" and what was an illustration/example of this definition that you found in the video?
In Macedonian hills, the music of Orpheus was said to possess certain magical qualities, having powers strong enough to alter the very behavior of people and animals. Among its abilities, the notes of Orpheus' lyre were said to calm the guard-dog of Hades (1), to cause the evil Furies to cry, and to tame the deadly voices of the Sirens (2). Was this power simply a divine and magical gift with no other explanation, or can we explain more specifically the connections between music and behavior?
This video is a lecture by Jean Kilbourne. She is the creator of several films in the Killing us Softly series, which deal with the exploitation of women in advertising. She is also a famed author, speaker and political advisor.
