When I received the prompt to write the following paper, I admit that it did not seem overly inspirational. One one hand, it is essentially the sort of icebreaker “tell-me-a-little-about-yourself” that I've written time and time again. On the other hand, I always tense up whenever I'm asked about myself. (Sure I do things, but do I have hobbies?) And discussing my goals for my first year at Oswego seems to be part of that category, in which I also have to scratch an area where I myself rarely explore extensively. I have found that setting goals, especially very specific, detailed goals, somewhat jinxes the success I hope to obtain. It is almost a non-confrontational sort of way to avoid dealing with the sting of failure, which also diminishes the possibility of success.
