Otto Lunardi’s son, Bruce, has lived a rich life with his father, and his father has appointed him a sailmaker for the Aurora. Matt sees Bruce as a thief, “stealing” his job he always wanted; a sailmaker. This is just one example of how jealousy drives Matt. Matt feels a “hard, hot loathing” for Bruce, even though he doesn’t know him yet and Bruce could be a nice guy. Matt sees Bruce
