The purpose of my research paper is to introduce my outlier Li Ka-shing. He started his own business in 1950 and named it Cheung Kong. He is now also the Chairman of Hutchison Whampoa Limited as of 2008. He is the 13th richest man in the world; he is worth $31 billion dollars and more if he choose to (CelebrityNetWorth/ Forbes). Li Ka-shing wasn’t always rich, he lived in poverty after his family moved from china to Hong Kong when the Japanese invaded he also lost his education at 10. He still had hope to return to school. On New Year’s Day, the boss announced that the bonus that year would be based on sales. At the end of the year, Li’s sales figure was seven times higher than the second best. If they paid his bonus based on sales, he would have been paid higher than the general manager’s. The other salesmen were already jealous. So he had asked his boss to pay him the same as the second best salesman. As a result, Li became a manager when he was 17 going on 18. Then second in command only to the boss. At 19, he became the general manager of the factory (Li Ka-Shing). Li Ka-shing, possess practical intelligence which is the set of skills that is learned through life to get others to see things their way (Malcolm Gladwell). He didn’t have much to come from but instead a very unique set of skills to sell he was very good at it he sold well and with it his success escalated very quickly from it. He kept an eye on the political developments within China, and had a firm grasp on economics, industry, management and the latest development and production of the plastics industry. He knew that plastics had a great future, because many products can be made from plastic. Not many people in Hong Kong at that time were aware of its potential.
